@uctransfer2016 Too late because the drop deadline is tomorrow, isn’t it?
@omex666 No, but you can contact them after you receive your Winter grades. It’s just unlikely that they will factor them in into the admission decision. You still need to get acceptable grades (maintain performance, avoid C’s) through the Winter and Spring, or your admission can be rescinded.
@goldencub so having a C during Spring is worse than having a C in the fall or last year at some point? Or is it just for some people having a C pushes them down to a point where their GPA is not as competitive?
Hey guys!
I ended up dropping a one unit PE course due to work obligations. Dropping this class does not affect my IGETC and I will still complete 61 transferrable units by the end of spring semester. Also I dropped it before the withdrawal deadline at my college so I will not be receiving a W on my transcript. I completed my TAU before the January 31st deadline and then I re-did it on February 2nd with the dropped course. Should I still report the changes to UC Berkeley Admissions and will this affect my application?
Hey guys, take a look at it. After getting accepted by UC Berkeley, you will receive an email like this.
To maintain our offer of admission, you must satisfy the following conditions:
You must notify your Admissions Officer immediately, by email, of any additions, drops or withdrawals from courses you plan to complete this academic year.
You must complete at least 60 UC-transferable semester (90 quarter) units by the end of the spring 201x term. Immediately contact your Admissions Officer if you will not be able to meet this condition.
You must complete all UC-transferable courses in the Winter and/or Spring 201x terms with a 3.0 or higher GPA and no grade lower than a C. Immediately contact your Admissions Officer if you will not be able to meet this condition.
You may not attend summer session 201x for the purposes of completing a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units, IGETC, or UC Reciprocity requirements. However, if you choose to attend summer for any other purpose (major requirements, courses of interest, etc) you must notify your UC Berkeley Admissions Officer by email and your final, official transcript must be received in our office by xxxxxxxxxxx.
If you are currently enrolled at or previously attended another UC campus, you must be in good academic standing; you must not currently be on academic probation or subject to dismissal.
@Hector1201 To my knowledge, sometimes they are stricter about grades - for example, I’m pretty sure I’ve read someone’s provisional that required at least a B - or maintained academic performance (whatever that means).
@uctransfer2016 I think so, but there’s a good counterargument that they won’t see your spring grades until after you’re admitted. All that matters is meeting the provisional requirements. It’s best to shoot for higher than a C, either way.
Do what you think is best for you, regarding the Engl. 5 course.
I know Cal admissions factors in total G obviously, but do they also factor in major GPA? And if so, what if you only have like 2-3 classes required for your major, or even none offered at ur CC at all?
Considering I live all of 20 min away from Berkeley, it is my number 2, but still SUPER nervous for their choice!
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.85
IGETC: Complete with CERT
Major Prep: unfortunately o-chem is only offered in the fall so I couldn’t take it, everything else complete
AS in Biological Sciences-Natural Science
Completed Anatomy and Microbiology
ECs: John Muir HOSA, 3 jobs, volunteer for many organizations, Oakland’s Children’s Hospital (intern), 4 years high school swimming, pre-med society, CERT
Can anyone chance me? SUPER nervous that I am missing the first semester of O-Chem
The UCs don’t release a set formula, but it’s fairly obvious statistically that students with CCC priority are evaluated in a different pool versus other domestic transfer applicants as the average admit GPA for the latter is much higher across all majors.
According to the released data on [UC Infocenter](Transfer fall admissions summary | University of California), the admit rate for 2014 non-resident domestic applicants is 24% which is much lower than the 73% rate for non-resident domestic applicant’s with CCC priority. Assuming the sample size is large enough, which it logically is, a huge difference like that can really only be attributed to applicants being categorized separately as per the [California Master Plan for Higher Education](California Master Plan for Higher Education - Wikipedia).
$700 to be classified in the less competitive pool and significantly increase (3x-ish) your chances of admission? Most people will consider that a bargain.
This was a while back, but I was told by admissions that they use the same criteria as their [definition within the IGETC requirements](University of California Counselors):
Complete at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at one or more California community colleges.
Have attended, immediately before admission to a UC campus, a California community college (excluding summer sessions).
Does anyone know if the people reading the leadership award scholarship and the TAAP and KASP scholarships have access to our applications and essays we submitted in November
Hi, for the leadership award at least, they will not look at your UC application, here you have a part of their description when writing the small essays at the scholarship:
“The selections committee will not have access to your UC Application, so please feel free to use portions of your personal statement as you see fit.”
By the way, would you mention a paid internship as one of the 5 activities that we can list? thanks!
