If any of you haven’t seen this, you should check it out.
Prospects for the humanities aren’t THAT bad, evidently. Unless you’re a philosophy major. :-bd

Yes, I’m quite used to people asking me what I’m going to do with a degree in philosophy. I find that telling them I’m going to be a professional beggar is a lot easier than explaining to them my intentions. And yes, I’ve actually used that response on multiple occasions.
I got the email regarding the online interview today and I decided to take it, I am just an international student after all… It is very weird that everything in their website is written in English as well as in Chinese. It is like a thing just for Chinese people. I wrote them an email in English about some questions and they emailed me back in CHINESE. That’s very very weird.
@Loragaga That is kind of sketchy
@paninichan I’m not gonna take it! If the interview is meant to boost one’s application admission chances, why would they send the interview invitation to some and not to others. Wouldn’t be this unfair for the international applicants who did not get the email? I highly doubt this could constitute any advantage whatsoever. In my view, they are just testing this method to see if it would work in the future.
Take a look at this:
They are trying to combat admissions scams; I guess a large number of international students pay third parties to write admissions statements and are using falsified highschool / college transcripts.
I’m not sure if anyone would be able to answer this since it’s a question about classes but I’m really confused and need all the help I can get.
I’m currently taking ENG-002 which is Argumentative Writing through Literature and I’m not sure if I need to take it since I’ve already taken ENG-001A (English Composition) and SOC-004 (Critical Thinking). On my UC Application, it says I’ve fulfilled the two Composition requirements but my counselor insists that I take ENG-002. It seems unnecessary to me since the application already told me the reqt is fulfilled and I’ve seen a couple people on here say that they took Composition and Critical Thinking.
If I drop ENG-002, do you think my chances at Berkeley will be jeopardized? If not, then do I have to/how do I notify Berkeley?
Thank you!
Btw, I currenty have 64 units. If I drop ENG-002, I will still have 60.
@yna1995 Are you following IGETC or Breadth?
@goldencub IGETC
It’s 2 months left guys ! I wonder if they have reviewed the transfer applications or just the freshman
@yna1995 I don’t think you need to take it, then. Your counselor seems to think that one needs to fulfill the 7 minimum requirements - but I’ve heard from a UCB admissions officer that if you’ve satisfied IGETC, you’ve satisfied the minimum requirements for UC.
So no, you don’t need to take it, and yes, you could potentially drop it. Why so late, though? You’ve already completed a good chunk of it, why not just continue with the class to get the 4 extra units? It’s better to take an easy writing course now to be ahead on units than not at all. You’ll have to take 4 classes per term to graduate on time if you transfer to Berkeley, which can be pretty brutal (and I think most transfers take only 3 classes their first term).
Side note: is anyone else applying for the Leadership Award scholarship?
I was going to but I haven’t lead anyone. I have not done a whole lot, and I stopped filling it out because I kind of felt like a fraud and I probably wouldn’t have gotten the scholarship anyway.
@boxandwhiskers You sound like Esther Greenwood. I don’t think of myself as much of a leader either - I’m a natural introvert - but I do hold one leadership position in a club, and I do have a good amount of responsibility at my job, so I figured I would apply anyway. $2,000 would be nice.
Edit: I just found a grammatical mistake in my personal statement. Oops.
@goldencub I currently have two jobs and 18 units so I’m not really sure if I can handle it right now but you make a really good point. It is a fairly easy class, it’s just a lot of writing which requires a lot of time. But I’ll definitely consider that. Thank you so much for your help!
@yna1995 You should be fine if you drop it, but you should contact them first. P/NPing it, or another class, is also an option.
Anyone here who knows when the (1) TAAP (2) Leadership and (3) Regents let students know if they’re nominated? Specifically for us transfers? All the info I see are for freshmen students.
@paninichan Leadership: April 8th is the day we will know the status of the scholarship application.
@goldencub thanks!!
Is everyone constantly getting emails reminding them about the alumni scholarships?
