UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

I’ve done like two of these before but I need the affirmation lol:

Im from a CCC and currently applying.
Major: Economics
GPA: 4.00
Major Prep: Will complete all by Spring end, currently only taking Calc 2 and French 2.
IGETC: Done by end of Spring Semester
Essays: My biggest worry to be honest. I think they’re crappy but I’m pretty critical, probably 7/10
ECs: Working 15-20 hour weeks as a Student Ambassador for my College, previously worked more as a grocery bagger, President of my school’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter. I have some high school tutoring too.
APs: None
TAG: None
Other Schools: UCI, UCSD, Columbia, Stanford (yeah i know, not happening)

Also, does anybody know what the general consensus is on Cal/UCLA conditions of acceptance, I’ve seen both B and C average’s from those that got in last year.

Thanks!

I’ve heard rumors that the college of chemistry and college of natural resources are possibly on the chopping block to save on administrative costs. Anybody know what this would mean for people who are admitted to either college if the college were dissolved?

@blsUCtransfer I’ve been getting them constantly. I don’t seem them as indicative of anything, though. There’s a disclaimer at the bottom of the email saying that the emails bear (pun unintended) no weight on your admissions status.

@screenname34 I think that the college of chemistry and natural resource will just be absorbed by the main department. Meaning chemistry major will be under letters and science and chemical engineering will be under engineering department, cutting the cost for paying for dean, administrative faculties, etc. that are running the department of chemistry. Hopefully it has no effect on admission purposes because im applying as chemical engineering this year…

Haas just emailed me to submit my Winter grades as soon as possible and an interview appointment. Is this normal?

Aaaaaaaand that’s how rumors get started and CC turns into a panicked frenzy.

Haas just emailed everyone who applied. In it, they said *if[i/] you took winter quarter classes, submit them as soon as possible. It also said “A small subset of transfer applicants will be asked to meet with a staff or alumni during the week of March 21st.”

Not necessarily that you’ll get an appointment, that you need to schedule an appointment, or that you’ll get an appointment. The email is nothing but informative and for all applicants, so try not to look into it.

Public Health may be eliminated as a major.

Are these interviews only for HAAS applicants? I wonder if that’s part of the admission process or if it’s for a scholarship? (I’m not a business major so I didn’t get the email but I’m just curious)

Berkeley-Haas Interviews:

The goal of our selection process is to identify applicants who are most likely to contribute to the intellectual and cultural vitality of Berkeley-Haas. Typically the information provided as part of the UC and Berkeley-Haas Supplemental applications give us the full picture of a student’s experience and aspirations. However in some cases, additional information is needed. A small subset of transfer applicants will be asked to meet with a staff or alumni during the week of March 21st. During the 20 minute virtual interview we will ask questions to learn more about you and you will be given the opportunity to discuss information provided in your application. If selected for an interview, you will receive an e-mail with additional information by March 18th.

Ok, I’m still very anxious about the InitialView that is offered to international students. Is anyone doing it?

@Sumner I have done it hahaha.

@resonanx How was your interview?
I am so curious about it because I am also an international student.

Hi everyone who apply to Cal!
In this year, the application deadline was extended because of an attempt to increase the number of enrolling students. However, transfer applicants to Cal in 2016 are over 19,000. 2015 was about 17,000.
Do you guess admission rate will be up, or down?

@UFJbank I am an international student. I didn’t get the InitialView email. To be honest, I think it effects any of us who are serious about academic matters. We were serious enough not to miss the deadline to begin with so chances are those who submitted later are probably no match to us.

@itakenotes I guess Business Administration you are majoring already requires to take the interview in the process of your application, so you do not have to take it for international students. In other words, other departments such as letter and science ask us to take interviews

@UFJbank There’s no required interview for Business Admin. A “small subset of transfer applicants” will, but I doubt that will be many.

I don’t think the deadline extension matters much. Berkeley already rejects far more students than it accepts and many programs are already at capacity. I could see the admission rate going down, possibly, from simply more people applying to programs that might not be adding additional capacity.

I think the UC application deadline has to do with other UC schools trying to increase enrollment, not Berkeley.

Hi, okay I’m a little late on this but…

Major: Dietetics (Nutrition)
GPA: 3.5
EC’s: Been working 15 hours a week since I was 16. Multiple volunteer experiences; horse ranch, old folks home, Fuel to Play 360 Summit with UNL football players, 3 weeks volunteering/teaching in Fiji, etc. Honors like Deans list, sports awards, etc.
Pre Reqs: I am missing I would say 4-5 off the top of my head.
IGETC: Will be done by Spring 2016.
Other Schools Applied to: SDSU (pending), Cal Poly (ACCEPTED), Davis (pending), Sac state (back up, ACCEPTED)

I know I am a long shot :/, but Davis and Berkeley are the only schools with my major so I thought I would at least go for it. UCLA is my dream school and UCSB is gorgeous, wish they had nutrition or something I was interested in!

Does anyone know if any accept Spring Transfers?

@goldencub

My friend who applied as PH told me about this a few weeks ago. I cannot believe they are considering getting rid of the major, especially due to the fact of how RELEVANT that major is.

@UCLAFFF @goldencub It makes me so sad to hear about this! Unfortunately, PH is one of those majors where graduates rarely make enough money to donate back to the college to keep the program alive. It’s such a vital area, but receives so little funding.

Has anyone applied for the alumni leadership award?
While some people got the invitation e-mail from Berkeley, others did not receive it.
What is the difference between them? The applicants who got such invitation have good GPA?, or their financial conditions are poor in comparison with other applicants?
