UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

Many of people who received email about Cal Day seems have taken a summer class in Berkeley.

Oh. Yeah, I did. That might by why.

I got the email also and I’m not part of TAP and I did not take any summer courses at Berkeley.

Could it be that the cal day emails are going to people who attend Bay Area community colleges? As it would be much easier (transportation-wise) to attend it if you’re already up there. I didn’t get the email and I’m from SoCal and I don’t think it would be worth it driving up all that way or flying, and having to find hotel accommodations, especially not even knowing if I’m admitted yet! (cal day is like two weeks before our decisions come out)

@browneyedgirl95 I am also from SoCal and didn’t get the email.

FWIW, I’m a SoCal resident who didn’t receive the email.

^ same…

@boxandwhiskers didn’t get an email, and she lives in the Bay Area.

It’s probably random.

I’m a NorCal resident and did not get any email…

Maybe it’s random. Or maybe we’re guinea pigs for some sick Berkeley social experiment!

The wait has fried my reasoning.

Yeah but I don’t think im on their promotional email thing. I haven’t received an email from them in a long time, so it might be sent out to people who are subscribed to their promo emails.

I have a calico cat that I often refer to as “Cal”. Surely the Berkeley gods smile upon this? Surely?! @-)

I live in a tent in the bushes on Berkeley campus, i’m hoping that will help me get admitted.

When writing down the decision date in my planner, I misspelled “Berkeley”. So my chances probably dropped by a good 20%.

Any prospective L&S CS majors scared off by that GPA cap to declare? I have a decent programming/math background, but damn if that cap doesn’t scare me off. I’m making A’s at CC, but everyone makes it seem like you have to be some kind savant to excel in the lower div CS stuff at Cal. I’m just a normal guy who enjoys software development. My study skills definitely need some work, and I I get pretty bad anxiety even with the CC stuff.

I live in Berkeley, and I’d prefer not to move again…but I don’t know. All assuming I get accepted, which seems like a slim chance.

FWIW, I didn’t receive any email, so we can probably rule out the proximity theory

I heard Berkeley is actually supposed to be pronounced as “Bark-lee?”. Maybe if we all watch Charles Barkley on TNT the Berkeley gods will smile in amusement and grant us favor.

More than 3/4 of us will see 2016 version of this letter in 3 weeks. So be prepared  :

Thank you for applying to UC Berkeley. After careful consideration of your credentials, I am sorry to inform you that UC Berkeley is unable to offer you admission for Fall 2015.

Transfer decisions were very difficult this year, as competition for fall admission was exceptionally rigorous. Berkeley was able to admit less than a quarter of the 96,100 applicants, including 17,200 transfers, all of whom were very well-qualified. I regret that many talented and promising transfer students will not be included in our entering class because of this high level of selectivity. I have prepared the answers to some frequently asked questions which provide additional information about the selection process and, I hope, address your concerns.

Given your academic qualifications, I know that you will receive other attractive admission offers. I wish you every success in achieving your educational goals.

Sincerely,

@Cheolf Yeah, the city was named after George Berkeley, and we mispronounce it as berk-lee.

@Hiroaki0422 Oh, don’t spoil it for us.

@microt I feel similarly about Econ but it’s probably a good thing that we’re intimidated. Complacency would only end up hurting us. For Econ the GPA requirement is lower than CS and they claim only 65% of Berkeley students are able to meet the requirement. Transfers basically need to be in the top half of both of their required classes during their first term in order to qualify to declare the major. Do you know the percent who are able to meet the requirements for CS?

I almost dropped out of high school a few years back because I thought that I was an idiot, but one of my English teachers told me he could see me at Berkeley (the only class I cared about).

I guess four years later I’ma find out if he’s clairvoyant or not…
