UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

lol in other words welcome to the Bay Area housing market

Thinking ahead :-bd

@tada77 yea I live in a co-op and most of the people I live with applied a year before they got a spot

@resonanx Same here! Time flew by so fast! Hoping the wait was worth it

@emily2636 ugh yeah it’s crazy! I’d be EOP so hoping it gives me a shot-but if I get into Cal I’ll figure it out either way haha

Just wanted to clarify: to see our results on Friday we log into Map@Berkeley… and it should be on the front page? Ahhhhhh, so crazy. I’ll actually be at work until 7:30. I don’t think I’ll check til I come home. So so nervewracking!!

@tooweirdyo lies, pretty sure you gonna check in the bathroom >-)

Is it me or does everybody feel like they’re slowly dying as the 29th approaches

Based on a first-year friend’s experience, for rejection it’s not on the front page, but there’s a link “View Update >>”. click it and you will see the decision letter.
I don’t know the case of acceptance though. don’t know any one who’s admitted… not sure if it’s on the front page or also in the link.

@ibtes96 What’re you talking about?

The application portal had been myberkeleyapp until last year. MAP is a brand new application site. No one knows what the rejection / acceptance page looks like.

@Hiroaki0422 freshmen who got decisions a month ago know what it looks like

The Co-ops can be a hit or miss but definitely submit your application now if haven’t yet if your interested. I know I couldn’t live with the wildness of CZ, but the small houses like Kingman and Davis are very nice and come with a built in close knit community.

If your a Minority / Person of Color, the Castro House is a great option. The BSC is touting it as the new PoC themed house in the Fall and it offers, IMHO, an unbeatable mix of action and reprieve. I encourage anyone eligible to live there to take advantage of the timing as Castro is normally one of the first choice Co-ops with no vacancies.

It’s right next to frat row / I-House and isn’t very far from Unit 1 and Unit 2 so you have all the opportunities of meeting other people while being far away from the hotspots that you can get some tranquility. Additionally, it’s in a pedestrian friendly, well lighted area (further away from People’s Park) so your safer there than most housing options available to new transfers–especially late at night. Also often overlooked is that it’s right next to Witter Field and the Strawberry Creek recreational facilities which is significantly less crowded than the RSF. It’s infinitely better than ending up in any of the Units.

@BigPanda hahaha, I actually resisted to do that for the UCLA admission. It’s just better that way… esp if it’s bad news, wouldn’t want to run the risk of being upset in front of coworkers and all that lol. I would actually be too upset to continue working :frowning:

@microt this is from p 60 # 900 (maybe useful information for us, written by @beth28) :

I tried to email CS advising at UCB last month and this is the reply that I received, I have emailed the CS L&S but have not got any reply so far. This data is only for transfer from CC so I guess that is why it is a bit different that what get published (9.6%?). Anyway this is the reply:

Thank you for your interest in UC Berkeley Computer Science programs.

Below is some recent community college transfer data about admitted students in EECS. The first number is the number of applicants, and the second is the number admitted. The final number is the acceptance rate.

Fall 2013: 768 75 10%
Fall 2014: 960 79 8%
Fall 2015: 1106 92 8%

For CS L&S is harder to get estimates how many prospective transfer CS students were admitted, since some students are intending other majors initially.
Typically at least 90% of intended transfer CS students are able to successfully declare CS major.

I have CCed cs-advising, the official alias of our Computer Science advisors.

Please let us know if you have other questions.

Best regards,
Allie

How hard is it to get housing at Berk? It would have to be on-campus housing or university apartments.

two more days guys. we can do it!!!

My birthday is the same day as decisions, great

@TransferJ I hope it will be one of the happiest birthday in your life

@SDGoldenBear Thanks for the info! I’m EOP because of my income but my skin is white-so legally I can live in the Castro house but I don’t think I’m what they’re looking for :frowning: I agree though, definitely don’t want to be in a crazy party house! I’m going to check out all the co-ops I applied for on Sunday, as long as I get good news Friday. 2 days everyone!!
