UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@blsUCtransfer I’m not sure. I got my tuition fully paid for with the Blue and Gold grant from Davis but Santa Cruz gave me about 6 grand less. I guess it varies from campus to campus?

Does anyone know what time UCB has released decisions in the past? I’m trying to decide whether or not I should bother checking non stop all day on Friday

I would be surprised if each application was even given 8 minutes. With the exception of non-CC students, evaluating each application would be fairly straightforward when you know what criteria to look for. When I used to review applications at the non-profit I worked at, we would burn out quickly and work in intervals, but in the times that we were working we were able to burn through them after settling into a rhythm.

@blsUCtransfer Since the Blue and Gold Grants are strictly based on need and the requirements are fairly universal for all UCs, then it should be offered by both.

@Tada77,

Nice timing! Considering Monday is the official start of dead week, It’s not farfetched to say that this weekend will be fairly active for most of the Co-ops. I hope you don’t let any possible raucous experiences color your perception too much. :wink:

@muchalucha,

As long as you pay your registration deposit today or tomorrow, you should have a very good chance to be placed at one of your top choice co-ops. Most people are hesitant to place that financial deposit, despite it being fully refundable, until they are sure they got into Cal.

If you don’t get off the waitlist, another option is to transfer into the Co-ops during the Spring semester. A number of people graduate in the Fall so just applying early enough to Spring is usually enough to get into a top 5 choice Co-op. Since you already applied for Fall, if they notify you that it’s unlikely for you to get a spot for Fall, you can opt to immediately defer your application to Spring and be much further to the front of the line.

This is viable because while the on-campus residence assignment contracts offered are for one academic year, you can also request to opt of your contract in late September (Specific date might have changed?). These requests (if submitted early enough) are normally approved to accommodate incoming Spring transfers.

@blsUCtransfer,

@TheVisionary is correct. While the award amounts will vary (due to the endowment differences between the schools), the B&G eligibility requirements are the same throughout all the UCs.

if we got the regents invite for UCLA (and if accepted to Cal) if there a fair shot of getting regents there too?

@themightybicycle Keep in mind that very few of the 600 applicants invited to apply for Regents at UCLA actully get it, and being invited =/= actually getting it. So no, don’t expect it. If you get it, congrats, but very few people actually get it as a transfer to Cal/UCLA. You, me, and every other competitive applicant (even among 4.0s), have very low chances of getting regents at Cal/UCLA.

We’d all love to have regents at Cal, though :))

Nice picture, by the way.

Okay if we go to Berkeley, who’s down to rent an apartment together? I’m too old to live on campus. Also it’s damn expensive. There are many places 15-20 minutes away where we can look

<-- 31, born in the Caribbean, raised in Brooklyn, lives in SF

Not to start a rumor but someone in class told me they know someone at Berkeley city college who heard back today via MAP

I’m 31 too. Mother of two children. We live in Santa Cruz, CA.

I’m going to be living off-campus not bc I’m old but because it’s too expensive to live on-campus. I don’t care how shitty the apartment is, it just needs to be cheap. Definitely applying to co-ops for spring semester.

I’ll probably try to find a single near campus.

@goldencub How much would a single probably be? And where exactly would you be looking? I’m considering that as well… (if of course, I get accepted)

Maybe I should take a bunch of energy drinks on Friday. At least that way I won’t know what’s making my heart beat out of my chest: the drinks, or the pending decision. :bz

@tooweirdyo Doubles generally range from 600-800, singles from 900-1000 (unless you’re looking into unnecessarily expensive buildings). I want to live on the south side of campus - if I get accepted. South side can be loud, but it’s nice and flat. North side is quiet.

I live in a single on the north side now and it’s ~2400$ a month and it’s definitely not quiet at all

I have to wait until 5:30-6 to view my decision on Friday. I’ll follow along with you all, though.

I’m in the single off-campus boat. Living in the area is definitely not cheap, but you can absolutely find spaces for prices that are comparable to the on-campus fees. I’ve also lived on campus at a four year so I have already had that experience and wouldn’t feel as though I am missing out.

I wish the other UCs would stop calling or sending me stuff until Friday. I just got off the fun with a UCSD student who was talking about my plans and I’m like “Yeah, I’m totally gonna SIR soon. I definitely am planning on signing up for that one program or association…” I feel like Berkeley is my mistress.
