@CoreyL Congrats!!
I’ve only received them from UCD and UCLA, although I applied to UCSB and UCI as well. Other people haven’t received emails from colleges that have sent them as well - I’m not sure what that’s about.

Ok ya, i just rechecked my emails and I was wrong. I only received confirmations from UCSD and UCLA. Any idea on how the housing all works?
Any other first year applicants who are doing 60 units, prereqs, and IGETC this year? (including those who came in with lots of AP units).
IGETC isn’t required for my major and pre-reqs are required to be eligible. I have a ton of units though, 100+. I’ll also have my 7 breadth requirement done prior to transferring.
@briank82 You’re first year?
Yo chance me, by the way?
Came in with 27 semester units from AP, so I’m a first year transfer!
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
Units completed: 15 (with AP: 42)
Units completed by the end of this Spring: 61.
IGETC: completed
Major: Political Science
Pre-reqs: 3/3, but will be taking 3 more poli-sci classes next semester.
Awards/Honors: AP Scholar, and three comedy awards.
ECs: 9.5/10 (forensics team, president of the current affairs club, creative writing specialist at my summer camp, camp counselor, screenplay writing, I work for this startup looking for bugs, I take notes for ACCESS students).
PS: 8.5/10 (connected poli sci to comedy, and wrote about my comedic aspirations)
I applied to Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB (I’m missing microeconomics as a pre-req for SB, though).
What are your thoughts? Anyone in a similar situation?
@solostish You seem like a very competitive applicant! As long as you didn’t make any offensive political jokes
:)) only joking. you seem much smarter than that.
@solostish I’m in the same boat as you! 18.67 semester units from APs, I took 13.5 units in the summer, 19 in the fall, and will take 14 in the spring. GPA: 4.0
It’s cool to find someone doing the same thing, based on my research one-year transfers do fairly well, in terms of being admitted.
@solostish Oh, ignore my post … I didn’t see you mention firs year. My bad!
Either way, your stats look great. I’d think you’d have just as good of a shot as any at any UC school.
@Molisha ahaha nah. I did include a lot of jokes about myself, though. But I showed it to a UCLA rep and she said she enjoyed it. Stupid things, like calling myself a humble vanilla-flavored slim Jim. Like my PS #2 was about my quality of understanding my imperfection—lending me room to laugh at myself; and how this understanding of imperfection helps me fix my errors and grow as a person.
@Pastas But the difference is you have way more CC units to show! I’ll be applying with 15 units worth of 4.0, while you’ll be applying with 32.5! You have a much stronger 4.0, which will show (statistically) that you have a stronger straight A tendency, while mine is just a small sample.
From my research and readings, I’ve found UCSD to be very (very) first-year transfer accepting. We “should” both get in. As for Cal and UCLA, they shouldn’t discriminate against first-year transfers, but you’re definitely in a better boat because of your hard A units! I’m sure you’ll fair very in Berkeley admissions with your 4.0! On the other hand, I think that I’ll get into UCLA or Berkeley; I don’t think I’ll get in to both (not that I wouldn’t take Berkeley on the spot!).
Feel?
@solostish
“From my research and readings, I’ve found UCSD to be very (very) first-year transfer accepting.”
UCSD may be like that because they don’t require you to complete everything before transferring over. I remember my college counselor stressing this to me when I had a really high GPA but didn’t complete much of the requirements for my major.
UCB wants transfers to finish all major prep before applying and UCLA, even though they do not say it, completing all or most of the lower division courses will give you a better edge.
@solostish I LIKE IT OMG
For all you guys using more than 14 ap units-- don’t ap units count as pass/no pass credits? Because you can only get transfer credit for 14 units of pass/no pass
“Pass/No Pass grading is not permitted in a course within a student’s SBCC major area of study except when the required course is offered only for Pass/No Pass grading or when course credit is received for Advanced Placement (AP) exams.”
thats from the SBCC website. To me that sounds like they may consider ap courses pass/no pass. I haven’t done any extensive research so don’t worry too much, but you should probably make a phone call to the schools you’re applying to.
@screenname34 I see what you mean, but AP credits aren’t technically P/NP. People consistently use >14 AP units to transfer (one-year transfers particularly). AP units are looked at as subject credit, not actual classes.
Does anyone know how P/NP would look if we are planning on going to law school after our undergrad? Because I know law schools do look at your community college grades when you apply.
@uctransfer2016 P/NP grades are generally discouraged. Law schools view P’s as C’s, essentially (although one or two won’t kill you).
Either way, they’ll be more interested in the grades you received once you transfer, so use your P/NP classes sparingly after you transfer especially.
Out of curiosity, are you planning to do any law-related internships, or have you already?
@goldencub oh ok, then I’ll probably avoid taking any, as I was thinking about taking one or two this semester just to tone down some of the stress but no biggie.
Yea I have been thinking about doing one but I haven’t looked into any yet, you?
@uctransfer2016 I hear they’re good to have, but I’d like to focus on other things. This summer, I’m taking a much-needed break from everything related to academics, so perhaps I’ll shoot for one during the summer of my junior year.
It’s really not a big deal. One P is fine. I’m thinking of taking one major class P/NP after I transfer because it has a notoriously heavy workload: a paper every week, dense readings, etc. Having a high GPA is more important than having such a minor blemish on one’s transcript, anyway.
Can I get some to chance me please?
Major: Physics
IGETC: Done by Spring
Pre Requisites: Done by Fall
Extra Activities: Math/Physics Tutor Tutor
GPA: 3.42
Personal Statement: 8/10?
Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB
I know my GPA is no where near what UCB wants, but my summer GPA was a 3.72 and this semester’s GPA was 3.76. I’ve taken about 20 semester units every semester, and this one included Differential Equations, Quantum Mechanics, and General Chem, along with 2 GE Classes(B in Chem). Is there any hope for me? My summer was also rigorous, and no W’s nor C’s.
