UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

What is the policy with planned courses on the TAU?

Is it prudent to wait until the end of January to know for certain which courses one will take?

Actually, never mind. Taken from the site:

“What if I list a course as planned and I end up not taking it?
Once you’ve submitted the Transfer Academic Update, you may log back in and make necessary changes.”

I picked a crapload of classes IP and before the next semester starts I cherry pick which ones I really want. I have 6 classes picked so far and ill be dropping three. Does this look bad?

I was expecting to see the Haas supplemental essay in the TAU. Does anyone know how/when that’s disbursed? Since it’s not in the TAU, it’s going to be emailed I’m assuming?

@AceFocused I would like to share my son experience since it may be similar to your plan. He is at DVC and also plans to transfer to CS under L&S at UCB next fall. If you plan your courses ahead it is not difficult to complete everything in 2 years. It is true that in 1st semester it is sometimes hard to get a certain class, I remember my son was wait listed in some classes but he can get in in the end (it is not that bad). If you are sure that you want to go to CS under L&S then the load is very manageable in 4 semester. My son was not sure so he prepared for requirements both CS under EECS and L&S, even so all classes will be completed by next Spring semester before transfer (he has to take summer class 2015). As @ccAndronicus stated, it is true that DVC has CS 61 B and C so it is good for UCB. So I guess DVC may be more appropriate for you.

@ccAndronicus thank you so much for the advice! :slight_smile:
How do you suggest I map out my courses? I visited assists.org and it says that you either need to finish IGETC or GE requirements. Which one of the two do you suggest? I am sorry if my questions sound a bit silly, I have just begun the process and still have alot to explore.

@beth28 thanks for the insight :slight_smile:

So this is probably a dumb question, blame sleep deprevation… Do you submit one TAU on the general uc website? Or must a TAU be submitted within each uc’s portal?

@sugarbabies3
One TAU for all of the UCs on the UC application website, and I think you do something like a TAU for Berkeley’s special website for applicants.

@goldencub the smarter option here seems like minoring in chicano studies then. I am supposed to be taking a chicano studies class this upcoming semester at my CC, but it would of course be lower division and would not count towards the chicano studies minor. Is there any point in taking this class? I don’t need the class in regards to anything, and with that class I am at 24 units.

@forshevchenko
This says that the confirmation emails for transfer students will be sent out in January.

@lovelyyliz

Looking through the [relevant course descriptions](Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies (CHICANO) < University of California, Berkeley) don’t mention any prerequisites for the upper division requirements so you should be fine as long as you meet your 60 transferable unit minimum. Additionally if you listed the class as “planned” on your initial application, you need to explain your changes adequately in the TAU as all changes between the initial application and the TAU are subject to scrutiny.

(Minimal scrutiny in this case if you expand on your rationale from attempting to double major to just adding a minor instead.)

Thanks @Cayton!

@lovelyyliz I agree with @SDGoldenBear - probably best to drop it.

Quick question: Is the deadline for Berkeley’s special TAU this month? It’s the MyBerkeleyApplication right? If so, are we allowed to fill it out now or do we wait for the email from Berkeley this month?

Also, another question, for whoever knows:

The TAU says we can update it if necessary, to change planned courses, etc.

Is the deadline for all TAU changes the end of this month, or is there some leniency, considering the semester starts at approx. the end of January?

I still haven’t received any emails from Berkeley. I didn’t get any emails for the TAU which is fine because I did it myself. But for Berkeley, I need to receive an email to get my login information. Have they not send those emails out yet, or am I being paranoid lol.

I haven’t received any emails either.

I can go on and do my TAU, but I don’t see anything about a supplemental essay, which is supposed to come out with the TAU for Haas. I saw MyBerkeleyApplication mentioned above so I tried to login using my application ID as it says to do, but says it’s not found.

I guess just keep waiting?

@Sumner I haven’t received an email either; however, it says on the MyBerkeleyApp site that applicants for 2016 will receive an email with their login information. It doesn’t say that they “should have received” so it is likely that they just haven’t gotten all of them out yet.

@goldencub I’m assuming that the changes will be final at the end of the month unless you email the admission offices and they agree to consider new information because by February the admissions teams at some of the UCs will only have a month and a half before they have to start rolling out decisions. They’ll probably be pulling out hair for the next six weeks. At that point everything is probably at their discretion.

I am actually planning to wait until the 21st to hit submit because that is when the semester begins for me. I have an English composition class that I still need to complete this semester, which is why my paranoia is making me wait to mark it as “in progress” rather than “planned”. Logically, I know that they couldn’t possibly care whether our spring classes are marked as PL or IP but I just hope that they will see that it is secured. I am in the class. Its official. Especially because comprehension should have been done by now.

Any other UC to UC transfers in this thread?

@goldencub yo you have good insight! can you give me your opinion plzzzz :stuck_out_tongue:

so I am either missing my american gov requirement (I have a 5 on American gov AP score) OR my history requirement (I have a 3 on the AP Euro) but since I can’t use those, would it be better like I think to take an upper div american gov course? Or should I take a history course this semester since my 5 on the gov test reflects I can do well in an american gov course?!?!
