@boxandwhiskers thanks… we did that and clarified in the comment section.
Hey you guys, I have some questions.
So why do we only have to show like 3 courses for BREADTH, but the whole thing for IGETC. Does that matter what I choose?
And also, what do I put for my MATH requirement, if I’ve taken both Calc 1, stats, calc 2 and taking calc 3 this semester? Stats, Calc 1 and calc 2 are my prereqs for my major (econ)
Also, what do you do when the name of the course doesn’t fit in the box?
@forshevchenko
Hey, fellow econ transfer here. Your community college had a course that articulated to STAT 20/21? I don’t think I’ve found an econ tranfer on here that has, so if your CC offered it, good on you for taking it!
@jonuni94
hey, sorry, I meant other stats (I needed it as a prereq before I changed my major to econ) We don’t have STAT 20/21. I wish they had it
Did you completnall the forms yet? I’m so lost
Does it affect admission chances to use L&S Breadth as opposed to UC Reciprocity or IGETC for GE fulfillment on our application?
@forshevchenko So I don’t know whether using IGETC or BREADTH on the form is going to be the better choice. I personally used IGETC. Maybe someone else can answer?
I would put Calc I and Calc II as those are the pre-reqs for us.
For course titles that didn’t fit, I abbreviated. For example, my Calc I class was Calculus and Analytic Geometry and I abbreviated as Calculus/Analy Geom. I could have done Calculus/Analy Geometry, but I’m not sure if there is a preference.
@cberg97 You need to complete all of the required courses for EECS to even be eligible, I believe. It’s good that you will be able to complete them. A 4.0 and all required courses makes you competitive. They say they won’t hold it against you for not completing recommended courses not available to you, but eh - check other
As for recommended courses, it depends. They say they won’t hold it against you for not completing recommended courses not available to you, but eh - check other CCs nearby to see if they offer more of the recommended courses (don’t break up sequences between CCs).
You will be competing for admission with people who will have gone out of their way to take as many of the recommended courses as possible. I’m probably not the best person to talk to about this, but finishing as many as you can would be ideal. Some people go to multiple CCs to get as many requirements done.
Honors courses probably aren’t going to be worth it for you. They look nice, but they usually have heavier workloads, and you really need to maintain a very high GPA - you’ll want to shoot for a 4.0. Getting admitted into EECS is insanely competitive. It can be done with less than a 4.0, of course, but having a very high GPA will make you more competitive.
So take Honors courses if you’d like, but it’s probably not worth the extra work, honestly.
If you need to take 3 years at CC to ensure that you can complete all of your requirements and maintain a high GPA (taking fewer classes per term helps), then do it.
@sosoill No. They just want to see that some form of GE will be completed.
@forshevchenko They just want to see that you will have all of the requirements fulfilled by the end of the Spring.
Not sure about Breadth.
You can put any of the math courses in there, it doesn’t matter. It’s probably better to list one taken for a grade than a planned course, though.
Abbreviate if it doesn’t fit in the box. My college’s unofficial transcript has the names of courses abbreviated, and they were generally able to fit in the box. Assist.org can help you with abbreviated course names as well.
Or, I should clarify. Choosing IGETC vs. Breadth really depends on your major, which college you’re applying to, and which of the two you will have completed by the Spring.
If you’re applying to L&S, and you’re on track to finish IGETC, you might as well finish it. If, on the other hand, you would benefit in some way from fulfilling Breadth instead (i.e. take another CS class if one is a CS major), then by all means, pick Breadth.
Personally, I chose IGETC because some of the Breadth requirements differ between the UCs. Also, the UC determines if you will have Breadth fulfilled, whereas IGETC is certified at one’s CC. One can also use AP scores of 3’s to satisfy IGETC requirements - this is not always the case for Breadth.
For me, IGETC was the better option. Chances are, if you all have made it this far, you have gone through some fairly meticulous planning of some sort, or at least have followed an outlined path. You should know which option you are taking.
There is no priority or benefit of completing one over the other - completed GE is completed GE.
Is it necessary to say that I wasn’t able to take CS61a, 61c, and 70 in the additional comments box? I know they don’t expect us to have taken it prior to transferring.
@csmajortom Not necessarily necessary. Haha. It couldn’t hurt, though - if I were you, I would say that I completed everything available to me.
I’m pretty sure they know, though. I think they use assist.org as a tool when reviewing coursework / applications. I think they mentioned that in a video somewhere…
@goldencub There aren’t any CCs near me with a wider variety for classes for what I need to take unfortunately. Also, what about GE courses? I know we do not need to do IGETC, however I have read that you need to do the required english courses and maybe a couple more. As far as honors goes, if I were to just take honors math courses would that be alright? I enjoy math and am good with it, so I don’t think it would be too bad.
might be a dumb question, but does UCB factor our fall grades into their decision (which is the current GPA we have right now), or the GPA which we had when we first submitted the application?
@lovelyyliz the GPA including fall semester grades will be used to determine admission.
Is that okay that some of my IGETC classes are also my prereqs or not?
I have a question for poly sci majors on Berkeley’s myapp thing! So for the major prereqs it asks if you have completed 2 out of those four (which I have), but then at the bottom it asks for any of requirements needed so whats the deal? I still have to complete my history requirement next semester (I can only take one course- long story), does this mean I only need my history course for transfering prereqs? k thx for the help
@cberg97 If you can handle it, then go for it. You really need to be able to achieve A’s in those honors math classes, though.
Out of curiosity, which CC are you attending? Some are better than others. It’s good that your CC has all required courses, though.
Are you already in CC, or are you planning to attend next Fall?
@forshevchenko Yes, that’s totally fine.
@goldencub I go to Orange Coast College in southern California. I’m already in CC and I took a class in the summer + I just completed Fall semester. I have a 4.0 right now.
@themightybicycle thank god, and thank you
@Molisha what do you mean it asks for any of the requirements needed? It just asks to state which courses you have taken that satisfy the political science requirement, and which class you have taken that satisfies the history requirement. Make sure that the history class you are taking will count for credit.
