@tiger144 @goldencub By the way, when I said they won’t factor your language grades in, what I meant is that they’ll get that you took it in high school, and give you some leniency.
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah those classes where the first I ever took. It was a little while ago.
Guys quick question,
on the TAU, there is a box for academic history.
I received an award in December on one of my main ECs, should I include it on the box? I know it is for academic thing but man it would be really great if they could know that I received the award.
chance me?

Hey everybody. So for the part under Major Prerequisites for MAP@Berkeley, I’m a Polisci major and so I did what it asked me to do (checking the required 2 Poli sci classes I took and the 1 History class I took). However, along the way I also took other classes that would fulfill those specific categories that I need for my major requirement. (As in, I took more than I needed) In the Additional Info section of the Major Prerequisites it says: “If you need to report additional courses, in order to fulfill requirements, how many additional courses would you like to report?” I technically don’t NEED to report the additional courses I took, but I definitely have taken countless more that I would like to report, in case it gives me an edge? Can I specify in this section that I am currently taking an in progress poli class, that I have taken another history class that would fulfill the 1 History class requirement, etc etc. Or should I not bother? I’m not sure if I’d be using the Additional Info section as it’s supposed to be used, so just wanted to clarify.
Edit: Also on that note, if one of my history classes I put down under the social/behavioral sciences section of IGETC, could I mention it again for the Additional Info of my major requirement? Or does that not look good to double-use any of the classes?
Another note–if I do go ahead and use the Additional Info section, would you recommend me to put classes I have already taken, In progress/Planned classes, or would a mix of the two work? The Additional Info only allows 3 extra classes so I’m wondering which would look better.
Thx so much guys best of luck to you all!!!
Also ah, I’m so sorry to have 2 back-to-back questions but I’m afraid if I don’t write this now, I might forget to ask.
My question is, does a school like Berkeley factor in the amount of classes its applicants take in their CC per quarter/semester?
I have always taken 4 a quarter, so I think that part should be okay either way. However, fall 2015 quarter, I took only two classes. I was still enrolled full-time (12+ units) because I took another class that is not a UC approved transferable class but is offered by my school: a Political Science Internship class where you get credits for securing an internship and doing the hours.
My question is: will it be considered bad that I went from consistently taking four classes in all the quarters prior to this one to taking just two classes this past fall quarter (granted, two 5 unit classes, Bio and English respectively that I got A’s in both, and then, of course, the 2 unit internship class). The internship took up a lot of my time, and with working 3 other jobs, I didn’t have the time to take another class in all honesty (also, I really didn’t need to given I have fulfilled most of my requirements).
So I’m wondering: do you think in the additional comments section I should mention that the reason I took a seemingly lighter load was because the Poli Sci internship took up my time, 6+ hrs/wk? Or is it not worth even mentioning?
@boxandwhiskers : Is anyone else having this issue with the GE/Breadth requirement supplement page at MAP@Berkeley? I filled out everything, but when I completed everything, hit save, and then log out and then log back in, it keeps showing that I didn’t fill out the Biological Science part and therefor marks my supplement as incomplete. I keep filling it out, saving it, and then I go back to the page and it erases what I put (but everything else I filled out is saved).
Any solution to the above problem? we experience the same problem.
thanks for your attention
Philosophy major here! Anyone other phil majors trying to decide between Cal and UCLA?
@Platosgooch I was sort of vacillating between the two, but ultimately, I prefer Berkeley. If I get in, that’s where I’ll be going. I don’t want to jinx it.
Do you have the prereqs done for both schools?
@beth28 I actually kind of figured it out, but it’s still kind of stupid and doesn’t make a lot of sense why. In order for the information to be saved, for both Physical and Biological science you need to check the bubble that says “I have completed a physical science lecture combined with a lab course” and same with the Biological Science. Even if you had a separate lab. It was the only way I could get it to save what I put. So dumb. I clarified everything in the additional comments to make everything clear, though.
@goldencub I have 3/4 for UCLA and 1/3 for Berkeley, because they only articulate one course for my school. I think I prefer Berkeley as a college, but I really miss living in Southern California.
@Platosgooch Makes sense. If you will have IGETC completed (or Breadth), I’m sure you’ll get into both.
I love the weather in LA - highly considering UCLA for grad/law school (if I get in, of course).
@boxandwhiskers Thanks, I did the same, and it worked. I’m going to send them an email.
I am filling out the MAP forms and I have a question. When I fill out the form telling them which classes I took to fulfill the the requirements do they want the specific class number from the college or just the designation like 1A? It’s not clear to me.
@tiger144 C’mon man, use those collegiate critical thinking skills. They want the class designation.
Thanks that’s what I thought.
Did anyone clarify what we do for the Science classes update? I took a Geography course without Lab and a Bio course with Lab, so do I leave each blank?
@Philosoup I inputted mine in the same way as @boxandwhiskers - that fixed the problem for me. I wrote N/A in the title for the class without the lab.
I emailed UCB with screenshots of my form. I’ll post back here if/when they respond.
@goldencub Ok I’ll do that, thanks for the response. Also, my school does not offer all of the recommended classes, but it does offer some. If I complete all of the recommended classes available to me will this be ok or will it hurt me that I do not have every recommended course completed? My school does however have all of the required classes available, so the required ones will not be an issue. Also, does taking honors classes at CC help at all?
I have a question for poly sci majors on Berkeley’s myapp thing! So for the major prereqs it asks if you have completed 2 out of those four (which I have), but then at the bottom it asks for any of requirements needed so whats the deal? I still have to complete my history requirement next semester (I can only take one course- long story), does this mean I only need my history course for transfering prereqs? k thx for the help
