UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@goldencub Thank you for your quick response!
I have some questions about MAP IGETC.

  1. For Physical science section, can I put any of my physics class? I have two Cal based Physics classes(Mech and E/M). The thing is that I got B on Mechanical and A on E/M, so I want to put E/M class instead of Mech class. Would it be fine to put any one of those classes?

2.Also, for Bio science section, I took lecture-only course, but there is no options for lecture-only.
So, should I say about this on the comment?

3.If my physics course is lab combined, then I can leave lab class blank right?

@goldencub I did click the integrated lab option. It still gives me 2 separate forms. Maybe it’s just a glitch.

@goldencub I just want to say thanks for responding to everyone’s questions so thoughtfully and rapidly on here since this thread started. Really appreciate it. :slight_smile:

@goldencub and @boxandwhiskers thanks for your responses, ya we can update after we submit.

A little concerned about the major prerequisites form for Computer Science B.A.

I was under the impression AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC would cover the requirements for Math 1A and Math 1B at Berkeley, however I don’t see listing those as an option for covering those requirements on the major prerequisites form. Does anyone have any insight into this?

http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/csugrad/index.shtml states that a score of 5 on AP Calculus BC can be used to satisfy Math 1B.

I have a problem about the major prerequisites form for Chemistry B.A.

I got 5 in both AP Physics C. In my UC, I was waived two physics class for Mechanics and Elec & Magntsm class. However, I cannot find any information about AP credit information in UCB college of letter and science. Does that mean AP physics C cannot fulfill any physics class in UCB?

@csmajortom Probably a glitch.

@csplzplz 1. Yes, they just want to see that you have the requirement completed, so you can put anything. Put whichever one you want. Totally fine. You do need either the Physical Science or the Bio Science course with a lab.

  1. I put the option for a lecture & a separate lab, filled out the lecture, left the lab blank (wrote N/A in the title), and explained it in the comments section.
  2. Yes, but make sure you clicked the option for an integrated lecture & lab. You can say that your Physics class had a lab in your comments section, just to be sure.

@themightybicycle That’s kind of you, thank you.

@SDGoldenBear didn’t list the class as planned since I was still iffy about it, good thing on that part :slight_smile:

@goldencub so we were supposed to have taken a lab for both physical and biological science?hm, I had not heard of that before. I was advised that we only had to take a lab for one science.

@lovelyyliz Just one.

For the course number, do we put the course number as relating to UCB or the course number as relating to our CC?

To your community college.

My CC accepts SAT2 scores for IGETC. Does anyone know how I can put this info on Berkeleys IGETC form?

@goldencub We can ask what we should write down for the lab glitch that is happening on the MAP during the webinar they’re holding. I’ve already submitted too, but it looks like we can update it still as needed.

When you login to MAP, on the right side is a link that reads “REGISTER NOW:Upcoming Webinar” where it says “Find out why it is so important to complete the online MAP@berkeley.edu update for transfer applicants to the college of Letters and Science. We will answer commonly asked questions and give tips on how to complete the information accurately.”

@jonuni94 Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it. If you can report back here with what they said, that would be appreciated.

Definitely, will do. @goldencub

Hi guys I applied to transfer this coming fall and it would be great if you guys could chance me.

Major: Political science

GPA: 3.68

Major GPA: 4.00

IGETC: No

L and S req’s: Key areas completed rest will be done in the spring.

Major req’s: Completed

EC’s: Student senator at my CC, Treasurer for the Club council at CC, President of a Christian club on campus, A lot of work experience at my parents business. Volunteering at my Church. Overall I would say I’m decent in this area with the exception being volunteer hours. This is because I was needed so much at my family business which I explained in my app.

Essays: I would say there’re decent but not outstanding. I talked about my interest in politics and the work I did while serving on student government. For the second prompt I wrote about my families business and my experiences there.

So I know my GPA isn’t that great but it was really just one class that messed it up. This past fall I stupidly took Chem 1A and as many of you probably know it isn’t easy. I did my best but ended up getting a B which took me from .76 to .68. Do you guys think this will hurt my chances a lot? It’s known to be a tough class and its not linked to my major so I’m hoping it doesn’t hurt me too much. The other 2 b’s are from when I took language at the cc while still in HS. Thanks for any comments.

@tiger144

If you have TAP, you’ll get into UCLA. If not, you probably still will. For Berkeley, on the other hand, I could see it going either way. As for your high school CC grades, I’m sure they won’t really factor that into consideration if you explain it. I don’t know what to tell you about Chem.

Anyone else not down for this spring semester? lol. Winter break burned me. So exhausted.

@tiger144 I think you have a good chance. A B in Chem isn’t bad. They will factor in language grades.

Not sure how completing L&S requirements as opposed to IGETC will affect you. Should be fine, but it’ll be interesting to see.

You have very good EC’s, don’t sell yourself short. Having tons of volunteer hours is pretty much expected for freshman applicants, but few transfer applicants have volunteer experience in college, it seems.

@solostish I’m excited for the Spring, personally.

Thanks for the feedback. And I don’t have TAP. I do have a few more EC’s that I didn’t list hopefully all of them combined can get me in. Still I’m kicking myself over Chem since I took the hard one for science majors. But I had an admissions rep from Berekely look at the app and she said I have a pretty good chance. She did say that the L and S req compared to IGETC has no baring on the decision as long as I finish and declare one.
