*****UC Berkeley 2021 Waitlist Thread*****

I viewed the HTML source of the portal, and I think the reason for the repeated addresses is that when our addresses are registered in the system, there is no “Mailing Address” or “Permanent Address” option for the admissions team. If you click “Edit Addresses” in your portal, you will see that the form only says “Mailing Address”, and it gives you the option of editing “Address #1” and “Address #2” (There is also an option to enter “Address #3”).

If it works as Berkeley wanted it to be, “Address #2” should be assigned to “Permanent Address”; however, I speculate that the system–when refreshed (which will explain why some people’s addresses’ conditions change sporadically)–might have accidentally registered both addresses to both mailing and permanent addresses, showing 4 addresses in total.

(This might be because Permanent Address works by taking the last address entered–#2 if it’s the last, #3 if it’s the last. The problem might be that Permanent Address took both #1 & #2 (or #2 & #3) due to faulty coding. Mailing Address which takes the first address might also be messed up, hence taking both #1 & #2)

As we’ve seen in this thread this glitch does not correlate with an acceptance; however, it might mean that our waitlist application is being reviewed (and the HTML code is somehow changed, hence the update). We can only confirm that the FAQ change correlates with an acceptance.

Note that I’m no HTML expert and I do not have access to the source code of people having 4 addresses (if possible, can someone with 4 addresses send me his/her source? remember to remove sensitive information), so what I said might be BS, meaning that something we don’t know is actually happening.

As far as I know, Stanford and Princeton are among the ~500 colleges using this admissions system (Technolutions Slate), and it is weird that only Berkeley is having this problem.

Good luck everyone. I think my chances are close to zero (EECS international), so I’m preparing myself to attend college in the UK. I hope most–if not all–applicants here get and attend Cal (I hope I’ll get to attend too :’( ). Stay strong.

@Aovnick hey, uk is my backup plan too! which college?

@yin Imperial College  it offers me a chance to study at Cal for the fourth year, so all hope is not lost yet for Cal at least.

To everyone who’s seen the address glitch on their portal, it’s been showing me three addresses, my permanent address twice and temporary once. Go figure
So ready for this whole process to be over already (:expressionless:

@nopitynope You may read post #1500 on page 100 for my speculation on why the addresses repeat.

Guyss I just got of the phone with admissions. When asked about the next wave, the lady told me that students were already pulled off the waitlist and if required more students may later. But that at this point, it’s better to consider other options.
So there’s that.

:-S

Thank you @calhopeful2021 for sharing. Good luck everyone and hopefully you’ll one day prove Cal wrong to not admit you.

Awww this sucks. :frowning:

Hoping they’ll release rejections sooner too; waiting is just difficult. It has almost been six months since we sent in our applications

Why were there three waves last year and only one this year???

@calhopeful2021 Thank you for your update #1505

Based on the update above, I think it is reasonable to assume that at this point, our chances of getting off the waitlist are miniscule. Does anyone know if UCB sends rejection notifications to waitlisted candidates or do our hopes die a natural death on June 1?

Hey guys! Don’t lose hope just yet, I spoke to an admissions counselor and he confirmed that there will be more admissions throughout the month, but there is just no specific date to which they will come out. He also said that if we are rejected, we will be notified on June 1st, not earlier because there are going to be more admissions prior to June 1st. So we still have a chance.

Just got off the phone with admissions and heard something similar to @almostthere2021

Berkeley admissions are whack idek whats going on, just praying i get in

@almostthere2021 @Erinb342 I don’t know but that response seems to work well to stop callers from bombarding the office. Good way to make people wait–give them false hope. Not meaning to be a pessimist but I think I’m going to expect the worst.

Like I said - our applications never mattered. Who knows if they were even viewed. I mean, I only spent hours writing my essay and waited nearly 6 months to be rejected. No big deal. It’s not like the students who were admitted from the waitlist already had the choice of UCLA and IVY LEAGUES.

@jahvascript Come on now, that’s ridiculous to be mad at people who have been admitted to other good schools that also happened to get into Berkeley. I got into UCLA and turned it down because Berkeley is my dream. Each school has different merits for every person.

@jahvascript I wasn’t admitted to UCLA (good thing I wasn’t, cause it turns out that school isn’t for me) I got off the waitlist… I was considering UCSD… (don’t get me wrong UCSD is a great school!) But … I didn’t bother applying to IVY LEAGUES. Anyway… guess my point here is… not everyone that was admitted is categorized that way you imagined them to be… there is no reason for you to discourage those who got admitted. They should be congratulated and proud.

@jahvascript it’s okay to feel angry. You’re just that passionate about Cal. But like mentioned, you shouldn’t be angry at the people admitted to Cal (be it they were admitted to other good schools or not); somehow or someway, they were able to present themselves better to the admissions office.

I’m sure you grew more self-aware and gained so many insights throughout the hours you spent crafting your application. So, while it might not matter at all to the application office (I’m sure it does–they didn’t outright reject you!), do remember that who you are is more important than the school you go to, and that–hopefully–you have become a better person throughout the process as well.

If you’re so passionate about Cal, there’s also a postgrad/transfer option, so don’t make this a deadend to your Cal dream.

I’ve always wanted to study in the US (I’m international) since young, and this Cal rejection means that I will head to UK instead (don’t get me wrong, UK is great as well. Also, I turned down UCLA because it didn’t really offer a good alternative to Berkeley EECS). I don’t know how I’ll cope with it, but if I can, I’m sure you can as well.

Good luck.
