UC Berkeley 2023 Applicants Thread

So I just accepted my housing offer to a double in Foothill. Can anyone who’s lived there tell me what to expect? Thanks!

@musiclover5 you got a good choice IMO. Get ready for a nice little uphill climb back home every day. The siding of the dorm looks quite unattractive to me, very 1970’s like. The inside is ok, I think it’s a wee bit more spacious than the south side Units. It’s the more quiet part of campus, the “not as social” part, but some don’t like the aura of the south end, so you’ll be far away from the south end. The Engineering and CS buildings are close by, so a higher chance your dorm friends will be from Engineering, but I’m sure there will be people from all majors there. You’ll probably frequent the restaurants on Hearst and Euclid a lot, like Laval’s.

You’ll save a lot of walking if you can schedule your discussion and lecture classes in the Soda, Cory, Etcheverry and Sutardja Dai buildings.

@glasshalffull123 I recall reading about a rodent issue a a few years ago at Foothill, but nothing recently. The maintenance department is fairly responsive from what I can tell.

This is a news story from April about mice and other problems at Stern and Foothill Hall. Saw it on the local news station.

Hmmm I thought the problem was mostly at Stern, didn’t know that Foothill was involved though they are next to each other.

My D did not apply to Foothill because of rats.
She got a temporary overflow in Unit 1, 2, 3.

It will be in an RH Quad. I am not sure it’s good or bad.

It costs more than 17K.

Rats is almost always a short term thing. I’ll assume the problem in Stern has been taken care of by now. They can come to the most expensive neighborhoods, they don’t discriminate. All it takes is a 1/4 inch opening in a wall to get in, or a slightly ajar door. I would say things like who your roommate will be would be a much bigger consideration in the long term.
