hey guys-- i was just checking, and is the uc berkeley academic calendar drastically different to the other UCs… not that it matters too much to me, but i didn’t realize that cal goes off semesters and say ucsd is quarters… ALSO WHY DOES CAL START SO EARLY! << im actually excited though ahaha
Because UCB uses semester system and all other UC campuses use quarter system.
UCB starts early (August 21) and ends early (May 15).
UCSD starts September 23 and ends late June 12.
You lose nothing. Actually you may feel less lonely when you start school early and you can join earlier summer programs (travel, taking summer classes) because the majority of colleges use semester system.
@ProfessorPlum168 - thanks!
@TheGuy1 -thanks!
EDIT: UCM is also semester.
There is one very slight advantage for quarter system when it comes to travel - airfares run lower after Aug 20, so a lot of times people on quarter system can still get to travel well into September and get lower fares.
@ProfessorPlum168: UCR is on a quarter system. UC Merced is semester.
oops, let me correct that
Some schools start mid august earliest. I havent heard any1 start earlier.
Also, 1 Question about the WL of this year. Have ppl already started gettin’ off them? It isnt even May 1 and past it yet.
I declined my spot, but there’s a kid in my school who’s still on it and claims he got in last night. Makes no sense to me at least.
Any insights @ProfessorPlum168 ???
@TheGuy1 Where are you going?
@TheMemeMachine College wise? I have shortened it to 6 options, out of like many. But I’m having a ahrd time choosing. Plus, I opted in on 1 of the WLs from several that is valuable to me, so i gotta wait for that too, for a confirmed decision.
Hbu?
I can PM u the details. I’m not comfortable sharing more in public.
DS committed to UCB today! He submitted the forms and we paid the deposit this morning, but he still can’t get in to create his CalNet ID, which he needs for a scholarship application he is trying to complete today (and he will need for housing, etc.). Are we missing something? When he clicks on the Get CalNet ID link it goes to a screen that says “Forbidden - you are not allowed to view this page.”
@lisalisae congrats to you and your DS! The error you are getting probably will be cleared away when staff gets in in the morning.
Congrats to your son @lisalisae !!!
What happened to TheGuy1? Is there a ToS on there that I can read up on? TIA
When filling out housing, do you and your roommate have to have the exact same 5 preferences? Or is it alright if the first three are the same but you differ in the fourth one?
I believe they all have to be the same. Also, I thnk the fifth choice needs to be “anywhere” in order to be guaranteed housing.
@alargegiraffe your preferences can differ, but having the exact same can increase your chances of being put together
So after Berkeley did my financial aid verification, they changed my citizenship status in my FAFSA to non eligible even if I am a permanent resident and I went down there and ask and their answer was they didn’t make the change and they only did the verification. I corrected it myself but apparently it means Berkeley receive the corrected version again and they look over stuff again. So if that thing happens again even if I show as eligible non citizen in their side, what should I do and did anything like this happen to anyone? and they also don’t have any email or phone number and I cannot miss classes again to go down there again
hey guys! does anyone know when we get our housing assignments?
If last year is any indication, sometime next week.
Just got into EECS OOS from the rejection appeal!!! Hello future classmates!
I’ve been reading about the rodent problem in foothill. If it is as bad as I’m reading, how can kids be expected to live in these conditions? Anyone with first hand experience living in foothill?
