Yes, my son is a current junior at Berkeley and he chose to do FPF his first semester fall of 2022. He’s an MCB major. It is much smaller classes in a building in downtown Berkeley (just west of campus). All the classes are taught by professors and not GSIs. There is probably an option to take at least one class on main campus. He lived in a dorm like everyone else, I think 3 of his 9 suitemates were in FPF. Students can get some entry level math classes out of the way and start their 7 breadth requirements. He’s had no problem graduation on time by doing FPF.
You will probably see lots of negative comments online about FPF, but we thought it was fine. If Berkeley is a top choice for your student, I wouldn’t hesitate to opt in to the FPF waitlist.
Let me know if you have specific questions.
anybody know how to see what major they got admitted as, its not on my letter
its real omg
If you applied to the College of Letters and Sciences, you are admitted as Undeclared and then need to take the course requirements to declare your major.
me too.. but we can switch after two years and reapply for haas!
Hi everyone, just out of curiosity and as a service to future Berkeley portal astrologists, could you please fill out this survey to see if portal astrology worked:
lol btw this will def be a very biased sample bc I think portal astrology was accurate and only people who got in are still here
Still In shock. Got into L&S with 3.5 UW and 3.8W. Thank the astrology gods
yes the id worked! got in for applied math!
Bro I got rejected from UC Davis lol and UCSD this UC stuff so random I swear.
Yes. For L&S you are undeclared. Then you can pull the prerequisites list from the departmental website to see what you have to complete to declare the major. I am so glad they do it this way. My DS is a first year and he went in thinking he’d major in applied math. He’s already changed his mind after one semester. You take a lot of breadth requirements (like GEs) and other lower division requirements like the 2-semester writing sequence. Many of the major prereqs also satisfy a breadth requirement, so you are fulfilling those as you figure it out.
hey i got in for applied math. was there any reason why your son switched (were the pre-reqs too hard) or did he just prefer to do something else?
