Is this campus safe? What is it like? City or suburb? Etc

Campus is safe - forested park-like grounds with Strawberry Creek cutting through the middle. The city of Berkeley is a dense urban environment, so be mindful if walking alone at night. There is a large homeless population and the town is gritty. However, Berkeley is a college city and is very pedestrian friendly and student oriented. You can get around very easily with public transport. BART station one block west of campus provides access to San Francisco and both major Bay Area airports. There are plenty of cheap and good restaurants, cafes and shops nearby.

There are three major bay area airports, and BART provides access to two of them (SFO and OAK); the third (SJC) would require BART + bus or BART + Caltrain or something and be a much longer journey.

^ Right…

I guess if you wanna get technical, OAK is BART + AirBART shuttle and SFO is exclusively BART with a transfer or two.
