***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@SD2020 I wasn’t in it. I just commented on the fact that they called UCB a “backup school.” I got my jail bars from another crime.

@infiniteCircle omg LOL @ the jail bars! What did you do?

@10s4life Yah dude Stanford is really like picky and odd. they are like uniqueness>normal stuff most other schools use

Ouch, that was tough. As @vi0linmonster said, I think Stanford really favors risk-taking, extremely curious, quirky and unique students, so I don’t think anyone can possibly believe he or she has a good shot at it. And that’s what makes Stanford such a unique school, in my opinion.

LOL @infiniteCircle. It’s just a poor choice of words - I doubt if he/she really think of UCB as a backup school. UCSB can hold its own with the likes of HYP et al. It just happens to not be his/her dream school.

@infiniteCircle how did you get your jail bars, if you don’t mind me asking?

@vi0linmonster I “swore” in a post despite the fact that CC censors swears (mostly).

@skywalker11 I totally agree with you. In my opinion, I kind of think Stanford is harder to get into than all the Ivies like Harvard, Yale, etc. I can say with a degree of certainty that no one, absolutely no one, can say they have a “high chance” of getting in Stanford.

Let’s get this thread back to UC Berkeley, shall we? Hahahahah

I visited UCB last Saturday but it was raining super hard. Damn it i wanted to walk across the 4.0 hill

I have not visited UCB. Is it a beautiful as it looks in the pictures?

Its meh. not that special in my opinion. But I live in SF, so I’m probably inclined to think that

@10s4life that is what I heard too. Pictures of it look nice. But I would only tour if I were to be accepted because it is a pretty long way for me to travel with a circa 8% of being accepted.

what are the jail bars for? do i need to read back a few pages?

hahahaha! i was on a flight with no wifi. guess i missed something fun!

Just for the record, UCB has an acceptance rate of about 19% (as of last year). If you’re applying for a less popular major, it could conceivably be a much higher rate than that, in which case it may be a safety for someone.

@smartypants57 so you’re saying if someone applied for a less impacted/popular major they have a slight better chance of getting in? I applied as a Spanish Lang/Lit major.

@madsurf I’m not entirely sure how admissions works with in the College of Letters & Sciences - are you technically going in undecided? I know that the acceptance rate for different colleges greatly varies (for example, the admissions rate for the College of Engineering is 5-10%, depending on sources), but if you apply to less competitive colleges, then you have a greater chance of being accepted. Not sure if the same is true within L&S, but applying for a less competitive major vs. a more competitive one can only help you .

@smartypants57 I declared Spanish lang/lit as my major in the college of l&s. I didn’t apply as undecided. And I guess you have a point about how applying for a less popular major can only help you. I know people say that they don’t take major into account for CoL&S, but I feel like it could only help.

@madsurf what I meant was whether they take into account your chosen major. Apparently they don’t

I have a 4.3 UC GPA and a 2140 SAT and I’m applying to cognitive science… what do you think my chances are?
