@neuroplease - Rank? Essays? Breakdown of SAT?
@neuroplease Anything we say is pointless. You applied. You will find out 13 days. The best thing you can do is wait.
Do people with low standardised test scores get into UCB?
@Way2uni yes, last year a girl with 2100 at my school got in, while many 2300+ who ended up Ivies got rejected by UCB
@Way2uni yes! UCB as advertised, considers the entire application. I know because my standardized tests were low compared to average. My GPA was strong and I had taken several university level classes. Additionally, I had unique ECs and I believe my essay was very good. Accepted for class of 2020 early as part of the 2/12 group. Based on my experience, I would say that the admissions team does their homework and will look at your potential as much as your history. Sure, history is a good indicator of the future but there’s more to the story, and the admissions people genuinely seek to know you beyond just a few numbers. Keep the faith.
@CloudWalker @APP2020 Thanks for the input.
@infiniteCircle yes and no for the beauty. It’s very technically beautiful (nice architecture, lots of grass) but I personally wasn’t the hugest fan because it felt very “part of the surrounding city” where I like a more closed off campus, and there were multiple homelss people just chilling in the bushes that kinda threw me off a bit. Still beautiful though and it was super busy even during the summer which was really cool to me. I love it but like UCLA a bit more.
reading your comment made me laugh so bad–just the idea of u getting bummed out by some homeless peeps idk its very funny when i imagined it @bananafofanna wish u the best of luck in your college application journey
did everyone get that whole application under review and decisions on march 24 email a few weeks ago?
Hey, i know im late to the thread here, but i was wondering if not sending a lor when one was requested would hurt my chances…
Thanks. The only reason i didnt send one is because all of my teachers hate me XD
I’m assuming that getting into Berkeley has fairly the same level competitiveness as getting into UCLA due to their similar acceptance rates in the College of L&S. Can’t wait! Less that 2 weeks.
@Yankxy haha it was just weird! Everywhere else was like “o yes we r soo prestigious and kick out normal people” but Berkeley is like “hey this will be you in 4 years after student debt” haha! But thanks!
I’m not sure but I think when I was there for my Regents interview a couple weeks ago they said that all majors within the College of Letters and Sciences were the same in terms of competitiveness to get in… but that said I haven’t researched Cal that much! Good luck to you all!
@kgiesch - I was there last weekend for my interview/RHOP and I have the opposite impression. EECS was considered very competitive compared to other colleges and EECS kids supposedly have big egos. However, I think, all colleges will have some group of kids with big egos. I have met several really cool EECS kids and they were even making fun of themselves and their reputation.
@bananafofanna - the joke is they were former Cal professors. :))
Is Berkeley hard to get in for Bio? I heard UCD is the hardest because of its renowned veterinary program but idk
So I got waitlisted at Caltech with some pretty average stats compared to the rest of the waitlisted people (31 ACT, 4.0UW GPA, 760 Math II SAT, 790 Physics SAT, no major academic awards, no research). Does anyone know if this means my chances at schools like UCLA or UC Berkeley are higher than I thought?
@EpicPear , while caltech is driven heavily on test scores and the UCs take a more holistic approach, you should have a good shot at any university. I have about the same stats and was rejected from caltech. Good luck with decisions for the rest of your applications
I noticed one of the earlier posts mentioned that the admissions readers thoroughly scrutinize all parts of your app, so just wondering what type of potential inconsistencies would raise flags??
I applied to all the UCs with different majors so that i’d have good choice, and I realized that for Berkeley I picked Chemistry (in L&S), but my entire prompt 2 was about designing an app, mostly computer science stuff.
Could that be an issue?
Caltech does not admit on test scores alone. You do have to have near perfect or perfect grades and scores, but they look beyond these numbers. You need to have also done extraordinary things to be admitted. Caltech is a special place.
