TBH, in my experience, Berkeley seems to care more about stats than UCLA, who values the applicant as an individual. If you look at the environment (and stereotypes) of both schools, this seems to add up as well. In the end, they’re both completely different institutions and try to refrain from comparing your prospects at either school based on precedence or assumption! Good luck to you all.
Does Berkeley have a wait list or admit students for the spring semester or no?
They do have a waitlist, and transfer students can be admitted in Spring.
@mikuru Thank you!
@Desiree2 shade much? Lol
No darling, it’s 1580 out of 2400.
Got into Northwestern and UCLA oos with less than perfect stats (around 50th in class rank), hoping Cal pulls through as well. If numbers matter more at Cal then my results will probably be less than favorable haha. Just have to wait till thursday, right?
Anyone been accepted to both Berkeley EECS and UCLA CompSci? Which school are you leaning to and why?
I got into both and I’m leaning towards eecs just because of its proximity to the Silicon Valley.
@BerkeleyEECS Hey! Could you answer a few questions for me? Thanks!
I originally wanted to be as close to Silicon Valley as possible so I applied to San Jose State and got flat out rejected (lmao… idk how) but accepted to UCSD (top choice so far, rejected by LA). Is it really that beneficial to be close to a tech hub like Silicon Valley for jobs (since UCSD is in SD)? I also got into Davis and Santa Cruz (Norcal hint hint) for CS and I somehow believe that they would provide me a better opportunity to get jobs due to their proximity to Silicon Valley. What do you think I should do?
I guess anyone can answer this but this is a question specific to Computer Science and the tech-job hunt.
@BerkeleyEECS - Thanks for the response. If you don’t mind me asking, are there other colleges you’re still waiting on?
does anyone know what time Berkeley is releasing decisions?
Probably around 3-5 PM PST, as is the norm.
@IBGuy101 speaking as someone who lives in the Silicon Valley – there is a huge environment of competition. If that’s something that you’d thrive in then I’d go for it. There are a lot of opportunities here, but you really have to know how to go for them by being out there and networking. You also have to be willing to be around a lot of people who seem like they have their life together, but are probably working/struggling just as much as you are (I believe they call this the Duck Syndrome at Stanford, but it applies to the whole area imo). You’ll probably be able to get great internships anywhere you go, too, they’re just in a much larger abundance here since it seems like everyone has created a startup at some point in time.
I would point out that Santa Cruz and Davis (Davis more so) are both pretty far from the main hub of tech companies, which are more in the area between San Francisco and San Jose. Unless it’s over the summer or only on the weekends, it’s unlikely that you’d want to work somewhere so far away. Of course, both colleges probably have their own opportunities that I cannot speak to, and benefit from being so close to the area. But I will say that Santa Cruz has a much different vibe than the rest of the Bay Area, and I consider Davis to be in the Central Valley rather than the coast.
My two cents: I’m not applying for CS, but I am interested in engineering, and I’m trying to get out of the Silicon Valley. Most of my top choice schools are in techie cities outside California that have less of a stifling environment. It’s great for opportunities, but it really depends on the person and you can find the same types of internships elsewhere.
Questionnn
I’m from Canada n we use different grading scale from u guys. For A, it’s 86 to 100, and for B, it’s 75 to 85ish. For UC gpa, A is from 90 to 100 and B is 80 to 90ish right??
And gpa is out of 4.0?? I used rogerhub to calculate my UC gpa, and i got 3.37… It was way lower than i thought so im pretty terrified. Would it be possible to get into Cal with this??? I got into uc davis n ucsd but rejected from ucla im so deperate
Do we have to create a login for a portal page to find out about decision? Or is it like LA? Please respond
@chantal225 I would assume you’ll need the portal. UCLA released via portal as well…
Any advice or knowledge on how to set it up
@chantal225 The portal? Didn’t you get an email about it from ages ago?
@chantal225 You should’ve received an email from admissions@berkeley.edu around December 10/11th with the subject “Your UC Berkeley Application” with a username (your email) and temporary pin. The website it links to is https://apply. berkeley .edu/account/login?
@hiddenfalls thats so much. I was confused by all these colleges whoops
