did not you get accepted into one of the ivy’s? They think even if they had accepted you, you would not choose to attend one of them
UCLA accepted me (shockingly), with a UC gpa of 3.82 and sat of 1580. My strengths are my EC, Volunteer, Essays but I don’t think I’ll get in UCB. Lightning won’t strike twice lol
It’s still exciting waiting for the 24th though
Good luck all!!
@spodankle what was your GPA and did you meet A-G requirements?
@pleaseacceptme99 Congratulations!
@pleaseacceptme99 1580 … Was your SAT from the previous adminstration where the max is 1600?
@spodankle I have the same stats as you and was waitlisted. The argument that UCLA admissions relies heavily on numbers doesn’t seem to make sense to me
If you study enough of the reports and tables published by UC you will be able to clearly see UC style affirmative action going strong. Someone from a lower API high school with lower stats than you will get in before you. It’s just a fact. This bonus is in addition to considerations for 1st generation and low income applicants which already comprise a huge (approx 40%) chunk of admittees. So transfer to the lowest API high school that you can reasonably get to for senior year if getting into your top UC is more important to you than spending senior year attending your home high school.
I thought ucla was more academics oriented, but my UW gpa is a 3.56 and sat is 2110 and got waitlisted from ucla lol i was expecting a rejection, but i think my essays and ECs helped
Yea, UCLA definitely did their admissions weird this year. Some people from my school with lower overall stats were accepted while other people at my school with a 3.8 and a 2100 got waitlisted or rejected. Whatever, not complaining though.
@kaatherinee academic oriented doesnt mean they will auto reject you just because your GPA/ scores is not up to par. It just means while other universities consider GPA/ score for 33% (random number) of your app, UCLA will consider GPA/ score for 50% (again, random number) of your app.
does anyone know if ucb puts a greater emphasis on essays than say, ucsd? Feel like i have no chance considering i got waitlisted by sd.
I kinda wonder if UCLA waitlisted me because they thought I’d turn them down. My app was in all honesty pretty good for UCLA. Like I know myself pretty well and I know my chances haven’t been great for several others (like washu or northwestern) but I really thought UCLA would be a shoe in since I’m In state, 4.0 UW GPA, and 32 ACT, 2100 SAT. But oh well, what happens happens. Hoping for Berkeley.
guys if i didnt send an lor even though i was asked to, am i all but screwed?
@bananafofanna - don’t get your hopes up, with 93000 apps they don’t have the time to figure out if you are going to reject them. If it helps any there are kids in my school with better stats and were wait-listed. UCLA has become a favorite school throughout the nation. And out-of-state kids pay higher fees
as much as i like the sound of it, i wouldn’t say ucla is more academic achievement oriented…there are ppl with very high sats (2100-2300) and gpa who get rejected but many people with lower sat who get in…
I have a perfect GPA and 2250+ SAT and waitlisted by UCLA but got in early for Berkeley. I don’t think UCLA is purely academic oriented
A girl at my school got into UCLA with a 1820 SAT and a 4.1 UC GPA. She had really awesome EC’s though and probably wrote a really great essay.
I got rejected with a 2210 SAT, 4.23 UC GPA, but weak EC’s and an essay that was nothing special.
Some… uhh jerks (I can’t think of a word that’s not an expletive to put here) were assuming she just got in cause she’s black, even though UCLA doesn’t even have AA…
All right just to clear things up: when UCLA is described as more stats based that means OVERALL. At no point has it been said that UCLA only cares about academics. That’s simply not true for any school of UCLA or Berkeley’s caliber. To be more concerned about academics doesn’t mean that no one with a lower SAT or GPA is going to get in. It’s literally impossible to predict admissions at any of these schools so when we’re saying UCLA may be more focused on stats that’s an overall observation. But just like with all selective schools, having a high GPA and SAT score is not a sure indicator of admission but like always, it doesn’t hurt.
I’m going to be signing off from CC until after decisions are released lol I’m currently sick and the stress levels around here aren’t helping. I suggest everyone do the same. Good luck to all!
Haha sorry I know academic oriented doesn’t mean purely stats; I was just trying to show that not getting into UCLA doesn’t mean no hope for Berkeley
I got rejected from UCLA, and I honestly think I’ll get rejected from Berkeley too
