***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

I am gonna do some community service tomorrow from 3-6PM so I would be on here fretting about my inevitable Berkeley rejection. haha.

“As responses come back to you from colleges, you will tend to dwell on the rejections, should you get some. It’s only natural – what you didn’t get and can’t have feels suddenly infinitely more valuable than what you did get and can have. You will be tempted to waste valuable time pondering what you could have done differently to be accepted by this or that school. You may be tempted to appeal the decision, if you had a “dream” school that didn’t come through. But there is only one good answer to make to any thin envelope you may receive: “Your loss, baby.” Then move to step two.” From http://admissions.yale.edu/after-colleges-accept-you

Great read for all! Applies to all even if not interested in ivies. Good luck tomorrow everyone!

@sumcollege2020 Same, I want to major in English at Cal. According to the rogerhub calculator thing, apparently being a girl interested in English at Cal isn’t favorable, since it has something to do with diversity and whatnot, but I thought all applicants in L&S were considered equally…although the data is from 2009, so I’m not sure how accurate it is compared to now. I’m not sure why it would be beneficial to consider all L&S applicants regardless of chosen major, since the different majors within the college are so diverse in and of themselves…?

Not sure if this helps in any way, but I’ve had a few friends in the past who were rejected to UCLA but accepted to Berkeley and vice versa. Sometimes, it’s about who gets to your application first! For instance, if UCLA saw that you had already gotten into UCB, they might want to offer that spot to someone else.

@wandersaur UC’s do not communicate admission decisions about an applicant to each other.

@IBGuy101 They don’t, but they still have the ability to look up your decisions from other schools.

@wandersaur really? …

NOOO I got into UCLA but I REALLY REALLY WANT CAL

Got WAITLISTED at ucla ucsb and ucsd… cal please save me from this misery???

can anyone tell me about berkeley’s campus and the town it’s in? I’ve heard mixed things.
personally, I would choose Berkeley over ucla (I got denied anyway) because I’ve lived near ucla my whole life, and also they do not have a business major. Westwood is still a great town though, it’s just more of a city school.

I didn’t really like where ucb was @lalabeach22 I thought it was rather “plebian” and crowded. Technically it was probably cool but it just wasn’t my type of thing. More hippie than high class (I’m actually poor af I just like the high class aesthetic even though I can’t afford anything  lol) but the campus was pretty.

Less than 24 hours people…

@lalabeach22 I am pretty sure UCLA has business. One of my friends is studying business or econ over there.

At what time are decisions released?

@Desiree2 you can major in business Econ but they don’t have an actual undergraduate business school, so not as many opportunities for classes, jobs, etc

Hi everyone ~ im a current UCB student and came back to cc to witness decisions for your year  I’ll be happy to answer any last minute questions about anything Berkeley or Bay Area

@glasshours Idk about this year but when decisions came out for me it was around 3pm - 3:30 pm. Exactly on time too, no delays (except my slow internet)

@alwayswonderines what is your favorite thing about Berkeley?

LESS GO GUYS LETS GET ACCEPTED YEAHHHH

ready for my second and last rejection.

@lalabeach22 I think that now that I’ve been here for a couple years I like that I feel like I can do anything if I really want to. What does that mean, exactly? Surprisingly there’s a lot of resources here that you can really only get at Berkeley by being a student here. That includes research, food, travel, work, vast array of people, awesome professors, and great mentors. Because it’s such a big school, if you don’t like something/someone you don’t have participate/see them - just do something else. That being said, there’s still a lot of people trying to pursue the same things you might want to pursue so inevitably there will be competition. If you work hard, look around, and ask for help when you need it you literally can do anything you set your mind to.
