***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@nadinev Admission by stats assumes that the exams are foolproof and good predictors of success. As everyone knows, they aren’t. And any university will look at other factors to break ties. As Harvard’s Director of Admissions said, “an A isn’t always an A” and a student who has been tutored to take the SAT isn’t the same as one who couldn’t afford tutoring. As far as other universities going the way of McGill and U of T, they are doing precisely the opposite and going the way of holistic admissions.

Does Berkeley accept low GPAs if everyrhing else is fine lol

@WonwillP check your portal you will find the date…

I know decisions are tomorrow, anyone know what time?

@10s4life According to comment #8, no: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/315047-uc-berkeley-legacy.html I believe it’s only for the privates because of the whole donor thing. The public schools churn out too many graduates per year to consider legacies, I would think.

1 MORE DAY GUYS THIS IS SO EXCITING

waitlisted by ucla, ucsb, and ucsd lol… berk please

@10s4life Lol, if they considered legacies, then half of all acceptances would be legacies since there are so many graduates every year and there are so many UC campuses.

@Wendelstein Last year they were at 8:30 PM PST, so it could be whenever

This thread is about to be poppin from 2pm-8:30pm tomorrow

This thread is so dead compared to ucla’s thread a few days before decisions

we’ve all been beaten down by the other school’s decisions over the last week! at this point, whatever will be will be…

this thread will be so lit soon. just wait haha

@Liljuju Not only this thread is so dead in comparison to UCLA’s, as you mentioned, but when it comes alive, it talks more about UCLA!

@Liljuju probably because half of us are UCLA rejects who are all pessimistic about Cal

Berkeley is my first choice school T_T
Accepted to UCLA, UCI, & UCSB, but I’d trade all three acceptances in for Berkeley :frowning:

@sumcollege2020 I’m curious, if you don’t mind: why Berkeley over UCLA, considering that (from what I can tell) most favor UCLA over Berkeley due to location, etc.? I didn’t apply to UCLA, but the way people are devastated over the rejections from UCLA makes me wonder what’s so great about it (in comparison to Berkeley), except for maybe some differences in majors/programs.

usually the surrounding area, weather, campus, social life and attitude of students

Did all mechanical engineering applicants get the Drake scholarship email?

@jordanh16 Yes, a lot of people rave about UCLA because it is in the heart of Los Angeles. LA is diverse and everything is nearby. But, when you’ve lived near Westwood your entire life, IDK, you seem to want out. That’s just me personally. Maybe it isn’t the location that drives people to UCLA, but instead, the awesome nursing program that UCLA has or their film program. Everyone has different motives for applying to a particular school and I cannot speak on behalf of everyone. I am interested in English which is why Berkeley is a better fit for me.
