UC Berkeley Class of 2028 Official Thread

It has its ups and downs for sure. She is happy with her decision to attend. It’s not always smooth sailing - it can be frustrating and bureaucratic and some intro classes can be huge and impersonal - but she has found a lot of clubs and organizations that she has gotten involved with and feels like she has a lot of opportunities to pursue her interests. She keeps herself VERY busy.

Have they admitted all of MET class or will some still get in March?

Congratulations on the acceptance!

View the acceptance letter on the portal and scroll down. Are there links for things like Regents and SEED Scholars? If you click on those links, they should open letters explaining the process.

yeah same question!!

See post 312 above.

My daughter said she got invited for Regent and Chancellor scholarship interview. Are they the same or different scholarship? What’s the difference?

It is all one thing: Regents’ and Chancellor’s scholarship I think is the full official name of it. But it is just one scholarship.

Congrats to the admits so far. Please remember that only a very very small subset of the admits will be notified today, and a lack of an admit today is NOT a rejection by any means.

Did you get email for English exam test after getting in from Berkeley a few days ago?

Yes, she got that email.

Oh. Last days ,we talked about email. Then, it is fine. Getting email made me nervous. Congratulations! Berkeley is a really great school.

Thank you! College admission can be very stressful. Best of luck to you.

Doesn’t this contradict what you said earlier?

Son just received an email for Regents’ and Chancellors’ interview for Bioengineering major. Did anyone else receive an email for the scholarship? Is it competitive to get an interview for Regents’ Scholar at Berkeley? Does anyone have any tips for the interview?

Its extremely competitive but getting an interview is a very good sign. @worriedmomucb might know more. Welcome to COE! My S22 is an engineering major at Cal so happy to answer any questions.

Any international students who have an early admit or Regents scholarship email so far?

Yes, my notes stated that the MET decisions went out in March instead of February but I may have mixed them up with the GMP decisions. I do not follow all social media so if no MET decisions were posted on CC, then I may have concluded that the decisions were delayed until March. My mistake but UCB can change it up each year. GMP decisions used to be posted early but not in the last few years. I do not work in UCB admissions so not privy to all changes.

The UCB website does state the following.

Q: When will I hear back from UC Berkeley about the admissions decision?
A: Applicants who are admitted to the M.E.T. program will be notified in either February or March of the following year.

Everyone who is being considered for Regents gets an interview, but the scholarship itself is quite competitive - both to be considered for it and to actually receive it. Also, look out for information on Regents Overnight Host Program - if you’re not super far from Berkeley, that is definitely worth attending (my daughter met her roommate and her core friend group at the ROHP she attended). If you are far, they also have a virtual one you can register for (but do it fast as it fills up quickly).

In terms of the interview, it is pretty low key and informal. You may do some group stuff first (like lunch or snacks), but then you do the interview one on one with a faculty member (not necessarily from your major, btw). The usual advice stands - just be yourself. Be friendly and kind and curious - the type of student they would want to have as part of a relatively small group. There is nothing you need to prepare.
