UC Berkeley Class of 2028 Official Thread

Aero is very promissing career. Physics alone has narrowed career path, usually pairing with math, chem or cs.

You can excel in any school.

I have a quick question for the new admits.

Did you take AP Spanish Language exam? Is there any new UCB admit failed AP Spanish exams (I assumed the failed AP Spanish exam is not shown on UC applicaition)?

Slightly off topic, UCDavis listened to your prediction/recommendations about CS too. Davis has 4 majors CS, CSE, CE and EE in COE.

I don’t think this will affect the incoming class. Its likely going to take effect perhaps in time for a future incoming class beyond the 2028 cohort. Since COE admits by major I think this is specifically a way to create room for hardware interested people who now get locked out because of the ovesubscribed EECS major. I’ve asked S22 to attend the townhall but he may not given his schedule.

S23 said that he can’t attend the townhall either, due to schedule. But I’m sure both our kids will get filled in from friends afterwards in any case.

What’s your concern here? The offer won’t be rescinded for a 1 or 2 on AP exam.
Students who commit will need to have an AP (or IB) report sent to Cal as well as an official HS transcript. My 2nd year Golden Bear didn’t pass the AP Physics exam. It’s not a problem.

UCLA has one of the best dining halls, but far from restaurant style… $25 is enough to get a decent lunch around UCB campus. But course curriculum at UCB is more intense for sure.

Did he report failed AP Physics exam score on his UC application last year?

I’m confused about what exactly you’re asking about. Could you state your concern more clearly? Are you afraid that if you fail an AP exam that you will be rescinded? If so, there is nothing to worry about. Or you asking about a different situation?

No, he only reported passed AP scores on the UC application.

He didn’t report those AP exam scores which is below 5 on his initial application including the failed AP Spanish Lang exam. Is he obligated to send all AP exam scores or it’s optional?

We checked UCB freshmen requirements, it looks like he doesn’t meet FL requirements…

He has too few years of FL?

He spent two years on Spanish, and two years on another FL at CC, but only took exam for AP Spanish Lang, unfortunately failed.

Two years high school Spanish would meet UC minimum admission requirements. Two years FL at CC should also meet minimum requirements independently.

Are you worried that his admission will be rescinded based on an AP score?

He doesn’t need to take AP Span. Lang exam again and he doesn’t need to report all AP exam scores?

That’s fine. You must submit scores of 3 or above. You do not have to submit failing scores because these scores will be used for placement/class fulfillment and failing scores do not give you any placement or class fulfillment. Alternatively, you can submit failing scores - it won’t make any difference. They won’t rescind you for that unless you lied on your application and said you got a 5 but only got a 2. If you did not report any score, then they will not care.

Fulfilling the admissions requirement is based on the classes you take, not the test scores you receive. If you took the class but failed the AP test, you still get credit for having taken that level of foreign language.

Failing the AP test, however, means you may have to take a foreign language as a student at Cal. Some colleges require foreign language and some colleges don’t. If you had gotten a high score on the AP exam, you might not have to take that. But if you didn’t, then that just means you may to have to take language (check with your college for requirements).

Two years FL at CC may very well fulfill the college language requirement, if the student has such a requirement (assuming UC transferable). The student would need to check, though.

YES to both your questions. For the AP exam, I think all AP scores would be sent to UCB, but scores that are lower than 3 would generally be ignored. For 3,4 and 5, the student may get some college units for it.

Good catch - I was so focused on the AP test question I missed this. You are right. They may be fine. They will just need to double check with an advisor.

Two CC language classes count as three years of high school foreign language. The student shouldn’t have to take and FL at Cal.
