thanks. you are correct, it just pops up now on its own without a passphrase.
anyone sign up for the senior weekend and heard back?
What’s senior weekend?
4 day 3 night fully paid trip to Berkeley for first generation low income students of color
No, I dont see any updates.
For everyone going to Cal Day tomorrow, the weather forecast is still calling for rain, so be prepared!
Any idea about the parking situation on Cal day? We were wondering whether to take bart or car.
My son said that there are over 10k people registered to attend Cal Day. There are parking garages on and near campus, but public transportation may be easier.
There is usually designated parking garages where vistitors can park. They are pretty reliable if you get there reasonably early. See map below
https://pt.berkeley.edu/special-events/cal-day
That said, I recommend BARTing because you might experience more of the city that way.
Any one get invited to SEEDS interview yet?
Don’t leave anything in your car and don’t think hiding blue tooth devices in car is safe. Thieves have apps that can detect blue tooth devices in your car.
I thought this was an actual robbery? Yes, do not leave things inside a car, anywhere, but this is not that.
Our glass was smashed when we dined in downtown during a campus visit last week. We parked on a street one block from the campus. Did not leave anything valuable inside and visible. We knew it happens but did not expect it to be that bad. It’s a rude awakening about Bay area’s situation these days. Don’t take a chance.
Yes … speaking as a local, don’t let a smashed window / stolen luggage ruin your Cal Day: completely empty the inside of your car before you leave it out on the street.
My brother in law and his family came to visit, and we stopped for lunch. They knew to bring their luggage with them, but left their jackets in the back seat. They were surprised when I took the time after they walked off to the restaurant to stuff their jackets into the trunk of the car. “They’re just jackets?” “Sure; don’t leave anything visible in the car.” (We had no issues; their visit was fine. Also, for the record, I would have preferred for them to bring their jackets with them, but they already roll their eyes at me a bit, so I figured the risk was tolerable to leave them in the trunk.)
I hope this doesn’t become a while side conversation that distracts from the happy focus of Cal Day, but please take the warnings very seriously, and completely empty your car’s interior before you leave it on the streets of Berkeley / Oakland — even if that’s at a BART lot, in a paid parking lot, or on a quiet residential street. It’s not worth the heartache of a ruined day.
We’ve had our window smashed twice while our car was sitting in our covered garage at our home. It’s not even just on public streets - they are bold.
So, leave nothing in your car and make sure it doesn’t appear like there may be anything in your car.
And go enjoy Cal Day!
My son tells me it’s rainy and cold and windy. (Not typical weather here)
Stay warm and dry, everyone! (Speaking as a mother )
Cal Day was pretty good.
Lucked out with the weather as it stopped raining by early morning and was fine the rest of the day.
There were a lot of people, but fairly well organized.
Most of the buildings were open and we got to see a lot of the inside spaces for S24 to get excited.
Food at Foothill was actually not great and supposedly they tried to make it better for Cal Day… But edible nonetheless.
For people who got invited to apply for SEEDS just to know there is a confirmed bug on the invite and if you have trouble scheduling online, you will need to emailed them with dates/time to get scheduled.
For those of you who have children without perfect scores- don’t despair! Not all is lost. Not everyone who gets into top UCs are 4.0 or “almost” perfect. I used to spend hours combing through CC- your child will be placed into where they are supposed to be.
My D24 received 2 Bs her sophomore year and a B and a C her junior year at her large public HS in Sacramento and still got into UCB, UCI, UCSC, UCSB, UCR, UCD, CalPoly, San Diego State, USF, Biola, Masters and waitlisted at UCLA and UCSD. She was accepted in Political Science.

On another note- Did they clean up Berkeley for Cal Day? I saw like one homeless person the whole day, and that was blocks from campus. Did they do a sweep the night before? and powerwash the sidewalks? I saw a local, starting to rechalk PEOPLES PARK on the sidewalk right off campus. My uncle went to a CAL football game a few months ago and he said it was grimy and had homeless all around town.
Interesting. I believe a lot of the rigor is subjective, unless they are actually looking at AP scores reported. Certain schools just offer more or less AP classes and/or rigor.
I would guess the essay writing had the largest impact.
