UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Waitlist Thread

Waitlisted!
Economics

4.0 GPA all across, 67 UC-transferrable units
Finished all prereqs Fall 2019; IGETC completed this spring.
Went further to take Calc 3 (planned on doing math-track econ at Cal)
Super derpy essays (yikes) and one year-long EC.

Really bummed! Really thought I could secure a spot. But I just got a Regents invitation from UCLA, so that’s great! Never saw myself going to UCLA, but I’ll take what I can get.

Waitlisted
Psychology GPA 3.7
Great EC’s and Essays, but a lot of admitted psych people were 4.0

Does anyone know how to fill out the opt-in form? Specifically the final grades section. Am I supposed to report my spring 2020 grades here? I won’t have my final grades until May 22. I’m confused. Help!!

I was looking at the previous year’s waitlist thread. No one got accepted in the thread so I’m losing my hope right now

@kanaomarrons last year they were overenrolled. I don’t believe that will be the case this year. Another thing to consider is fewer people especially OOS and international students will opt to attend this year. Even some friends who got in told me they may decline it as if its online they will be paying 10s of thousands on online classes. Especially for transfers where we are only taking 2 years of hardcore classes before finishing. Waitlist seems pretty small tbh.

I want to know this too!! @Bubonica

3.97 L&S CS waitlisted. I saw the 2019 WL thread too, no one got off the waitlist last year. Considering the fact there more transfer applications this year compared to the last, I think our chances are slim too. As @“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” said, I hope the virus saves us lol.

Prior to last year for every year before they took 30-50% off the waitlist. 2018 actually had more applicants than in 2019.

3.8 GPA pure math major also waitlisted. Im now very stressed about UCLA, but we’ll see how it goes

Does anyone know if the waitlist is based off of first come first serve, or?

lol looks like im one of the only HAAS waitlists… awkward LOL

3.75 GPA, all reqs done and igetc all done.

@user238593894 I don’t think turning in the opt-in form early will help your chances. Berkeley’s waitlist is not an actual line with numbers assigned to each waitlisted applicant. If you look at the common data set, Berkeley lists their waitlist as ‘unranked.’ I’m unsure how they pick people off the waitlist. I wish I knew.

Is anyone planning on not doing the essay? I’ve heard of people getting in and not writing the (optional) essay. I’m contemplating whether I should write the essay or focus on my spring finals.

Waitlisted
L&S CS GPA 3.92
CS Industry Internship
Let’s hope this year’s transfer waitlist admissions are different given the circumstances!

Waitlisted, OOS student.

I’ve seen a lot of folks on this thread and the main Fall 2020 thread saying current situation may mean that less OOS students will opt to attend this year. I just have to say that I don’t follow that logic…? As an OOS student looking at how much better California is managing coronavirus than the rest of the country, I would have every intention of enrolling if I was accepted. I think if you’re a CCC transfer you should be more worried about other CCC transfers who’ve been waitlisted because UC schools prioritize admitting CCC students. OOS and International students have even less of a chance of being accepted if they’ve been waitlisted. We are not a priority to UC. Also, let me just say that I will pay thousands of dollars even if Berkeley is online because… it’s Berkeley. And I know that other OOS students would as well.

@mikeslater everyone’s different, great perspective you have given. I have a cousin who got into Berkeley as an OOS transfer yesterday and he is seriously considering not attending or at least trying to see if it’s possible to defer enrollment, he’s a CS major and doesn’t want to go into the job market in 2 years if he is not confident and able to take advantage of the school’s resources. For me, I know that wouldn’t be the case but I guess its a case by case basis. I disagree with OOS students not being a priority at UCS because they are getting paid triple the amount even if they accept less of them OOS students are a necessity because of the financial value they bring to the school.

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” hi you said they took very little people off the transfer waitlist last year. Could you please tell me where you heard this information? From what I have seen no transfers from the waitlist were offered admittance last year. Thanks

Also @“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” if you could please post the link to where you found 2018’s stats that would be appreciate too thank you

@Trevor123456781 It flagged it when I went to post a link. Is there anywhere else I can reach you?

any thoughts on an OOS student who is a CA resident? Am I screwed if I am waitlisted?

If berkeley admits me I pay the same as a CCC kid so they r less likely to admit me, right? Wouldn’t they rather admit the OOS kid who is not a resident of CA that way they pay OOS tuition?
