UC Berkeley Freshman Questions

I would really appreciate any help. So, I was just admitted into UCB under the College of Letters and Sciences. I am a bit intimidated since there are a lot of brilliant people who attend the university. I just hope you guys can help answer my questions.
• How is the environment like at UCB
• Would you recommend living on or off campus (pros & cons)
• What dorm would you recommend I sign up for

First, congrats on being admitted. There are tons of posts/other resources to get to know the environment at UCB AND dorm pros/cons. Search for them and if you have more specific questions or unanswered questions let us know.

Definitely live on campus if you can afford it, though. You meet tons of people, future apartment mates, get the college dorm experience,… etc. There are tons of pros. Only cons I can see are its pricey or if you prefer to not live with others…

That being said, all dorms are “off campus” as well. When you do move into an apartment, you’ll basically be in the same area of the units or Clark Kerr if you stay in southside, and around the same-ish area as foothill and stuff (“Unit 4”) if in northside.

Other cons would come from what your floormates end up being like - you may be on a “party floor” when you’d rather just get your work done and sleep before 2am, and vice versa.

The environment…well…it would be best for you to go visit since it’s hard to describe, but I guarantee you won’t feel intimidated or something just by walking around, and people are generally friendly.
