<p>I read that Cal uses mostly stats to decide admission. If a person were valedictorian or close to it and had a 2200+ SAT, would they be “in”? For an in stater.</p>

<p>I do not think you can ever say that anybody is “in” at UC Berkeley given the high number of highly qualified applicants that the school attracts but with the circumstances you mentioned, the chance of acceptance is very high.</p>
<p>You still need leadership positions to get in. Unlike the Ivies and other such schools, you don’t need extraordinary ECs (research, awards, etc.), but the UCs really only care about some sort of leadership. If you have 2200+ SAT, a near 4.0 GPA, a rigorous courseload, and several leadership roles, then you’re pretty much in. The essay plays an extremely minor role in UC admissions.</p>
