The reality is any of the engineering majors at UCB has 2-3 digit capacity and all the people who apply are (or should be) keenly aware of those numbers to know the odds.
S24’s counselor at school sort told him rejection is expected, acceptance will be a great surprise. He would have a better chance getting into an Ivy than UCB. He gets that.
