I have no idea how they’re determining who gets to submit recs. But I do know that about 6 others from my school got a request and they were pretty varied (I’m assuming from what I know of them).
@Jhop32 It’s possible that candidates who are almost certainly accepted wouldn’t receive a request because it simply wouldn’t make sense to waste extra time on a pretty solid candidate. Your stats seem strong so you know, you could take it as a good sign.

This may be a dumb question, but what do you put in the “Relationship” section? Do you just put student/teacher?
On one of them I put the relationship and their position as the same XD. And just my 2 cents, I don’t think they mean a lot. It can’t make or break decisions because they’re “optional” and it gives some people unfair advantage/disadvantage.
And a little more info. I got my request like a week after people at my school got it, so I don’t think its based on like region or school.
@reallylost everyone who applied to Berkeley this year got letters of rec regardless of your application. Also, if you applied to UCLA and UCB, there is a great chance you will only get into one as the application process is getting very competitive!
@roma1998 Actually, Berkeley will only be sending out request to about 20% of applicants although no one really knows how they decide who falls into that group.
My S got an email today saying they already received one of his recommendations and it had the teachers name:) His GC also told him that UCLA is not sending out the LOR, only UCB.
