I am super super worried that I won’t get into UCB or UCLA because of my GPA. I go to an insanely competitive high school (number one in the country, actually, TJHSST) so my GPA is absolute crap (UC GPA: 3.8). I got a perfect on my ACT composite and every section, as well as being president of three clubs and curricular orchestra president. Had a highly competitive internship at the Naval Research Lab this summer doing astrophysics (thats my intended major as well).I also volunteer 100+ hours a year… Did not get a letter of rec request. Any insight on my changes of UCB or UCLA? I’m OOS, also, and my essays were fairly good. I’m sorry for the long post, I’m just REALLY freaking out

Obviously i dont meet the same threshhold as many of you.
But i have very strong ec’s considering i go to school in area with riduculous drop out rates and overall low academically performing etc other circumstances i described in detail in my personal statements.
Worked on personal statements since junior year.
I believe it is that human factor that prompted them to ask because my score numbers alone may not be the most competitive. Who knows.

I never got requested via email but when I logged into my portal I was.
Jazzer, i dont think you should be concerned. I think it’s based on how you perform in comparison to the rest of your senior class. If your scores are high but not as high as the top percent of your class you might not be asked for a letter. Or it could be because youre a sure fire acceptance solely from numbers not considering other factors. Its complicated.
Yeah I’m confused why my portal said to submit letters of rec but I never got an email to. (And I Also checked spam just to be sure)

I’m bewildered as to why I got a request considering the majority of others who received a LOR request have much higher stats than me. Best of luck to everyone, I’m hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
I know their website says those who don’t receive a request are not at a disadvantage, but does anyone know exactly why they ask for the rec letters? A bunch of my friends got the request and I didn’t. Only one of them is a low income student.
