UC Berkeley Supplemental Freshman Questionairre

I just got his. Did anyone else? I read the 2008 thread on this here.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/450427-extra-info-myberkley-app-page.html</a></p>

Seems there are a number of versions of the Questionairre (academic, EC, etc). Mine was EC.

My take: I’m border line Academic but a drill down on my EC’s would tip the scale (either way).

My stats: 4.1 GPA, 2010 SATs, lots of Science APs, Band scholarship, 1st String Varsity point guard.

Anybody else have thoughts about how to handle this request? They’re making me write 4 new essays. Geesh. Here they are:

~describe the special talent you included among your list of extracurricular activities or mentioned in your personal statement on the UC application. (Art, music, dance, debate, athletics, etc.)

~please help us evaluate your skills by providing us with information about the level of your achievement in your talent area. Describe any awards/honors received, positions attained or prizes won in competition as a result of your talent (for example, concertmistress of state-wide orchestra, participation in Junior Olympics for a particular sport, placing in a national debate competition).

~what impact, if any, has your pursuit of your special skill/talent affected your academic achievement?

~how would you further develop your talent at Berkeley?

~fall/spring class schedule and grades

Lost in Space
Jamie

wow. i didn’t get one, so i’m scared i might not have gotten in.

i guess you’re lucky in that now you know you’re on the ridge, and that you have a shot at jumping.

any thoughts on how to handle the request? do your best, and get it over with. looks like they’re asking you to talk about a passion you have. you’re trying to sell yourself to UCB: show them what amazing talent you have that UCB should want.

nw09. Never fear. You are in the YES pile  They don’t need any more info.

so after reading that link to the other thread, i guess that they send this email/questionnaire to all “maybe” applicants, although that’s still uncertain. I hope I don’t get one though

  1. i wouldn’t know how to answer those questions
  2. It would make me too nervous :P.
Did you get it through email or did you just check your myberkeley page?
Good luck, and everyone who gets this…keep us posted!

1) I am nervous
2) I don’t know how to answer the questions.

I got an email on Fri, Jan 16, 2:23PM PST

Here is the letter:

===========

Hi James,

Thank you for applying to UC Berkeley for fall 2009!

We’ve begun our comprehensive review of your application and are writing to ask you to fill out an online supplemental questionnaire.

Each year we ask a small group of students for additional information to enhance their application. We’d like to learn more about you and your academic experience, particularly in regards to your extracurricular involvement, special skills and talent you mentioned on your application. This could be success in arts, dance, drama, debate, athletics, etc.

We can’t emphasize enough that this information can only strengthen your case. It’s a unique opportunity to tell us more about your personal path to college without negatively affecting your application.

To be considered in our review, all supplemental information must be completed in the next 10 days. The steps are easy:

To access and fill out the questionnaire, log onto myBerkeleyApplication via our website: http://admissions.berkeley.edu

Provide us with your fall semester grades in the questionnaire. If you haven’t received your grades yet, don’t wait for them. It’s more important that the questionnaire is returned on time. Also, confirm or indicate changes to your spring class schedule.

(Optional) Submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach or anyone familiar with your academic background and extracurricular skills/talents. Your recommender can fill out an online form at the following link. Note that in providing this link to your recommender, you waive your right to view this letter of recommendation at any future point.

Please do not reply to this email; if you have questions, call us at 510-642-3175, Monday-Friday, 1 pm-4 pm (PST).

We look forward to hearing from you!
