UC Berkeley Transfer Thread 2018

@transfer201831 yes!

@doglover95 I never had a Pre-SIR so this still might be true

Also, it kind of sounds like only a few people have the SIR fee showing up on their account, including @GoldenState1 and @justtransfer417

Are there any others who see the $250 SIR fee when they go to their myfinances tab?

Really nervous about the pre-sir status. Since I’m a guest student mine says “STUDENT-REGISTERED” so I’m not sure whether or not I have it…

@RamenNoooodle lol I go to Berkeley City College so that’s probably why! I think a lot more people apply to Berkeley than UCLA or UCSD cause we’re right there.

And it’s a sociology class. Everyone wants cal sociology (sad for me)

@thecolorblue we get a discount but are not given one at the Retail level. We are4nt salaried so were not expected to work outside the store. Inside the store, we have plenty to use while clocked in. Salaried employees at corporate get devices because they often work from home and on the road.

@NetflixJunkie

People who might’ve checked their accounts long after activating might have missed the Pre-sir (assuming it happened to everyone who first registered for their accounts) and then changed to student-non registered.

As of now, I don’t think anyone in this group has “pre-sir”

LOL YOOOOO @ughstress

I’m also noticing a lot of people that had the “new admit tour” notification on calcentral were admitted.

@OhWhatsHerName

There’s actually 19,000 transfer applicants that applied to Berkeley this year and around 23,000 that applied to UCLA

And yes this is my #1 realistic choice, UCSC was my safety school already accepted… Bunch of privates as reach schools in which I have a greater chance of getting struck by lightning than getting admitted to.

@GoldenState1

I did notice that as well. I didn’t come to anything conclusive though.

I was following someone’s posts on the 2017 thread, who posted regularly. His username was “orange”- something. That’s how I learned of the correlation between last year’s students with pre-sir and not-registered.

I feel like it’s a pretty good sign that you have the SIR fee under your finances though

@GoldenState1 Stanford? :stuck_out_tongue:

Does it matter that my uc apps were waived? I don’t have the SIR fee

@doglover95 I have the $250 SIR fee as well

I’ve been lurking here for days and I’m getting progressively more anxious, just like everyone else. A couple of comments about the information systems and the changes ppl are trying to figure out. My supposition is that the UC Info systems are actually many different systems interconnected and the updates are automated. I’m almost certain this is they address business which I think, correctly, has been debunked some time ago. The systems are obviously getting automatically updated over time and cause changes in the addresses which are likely coming from different sources. One bot adds all the addresses, another bot comes along and “fixes” them, and then the first bot fires off again. I seriously doubt that this is related to a record somewhere which essentially says “you got in” etc. etc. It could be - but it seems extremely unlikely. On the LDAP stuff I’m not sure. My personal situation is complex with Berkeley - there is still a record in there from when I worked on the campus from years ago. The only interesting issue I’ve seen, in my case, is the $250 payment deal. This is interesting because when I go to MyDashboard on Cal Central and click on “my finances” I get to a summary page with a 0 balance. But when I click on “Make Payment” it takes me to an external payment site with an as yet not due, $250 charge. The fact that this is on another site/system and there is no conceivable way I can account for that $250 makes me think something is up. But it doesn’t matter. As everyone here already knows we’ll know quite soon. As a much older student I really feel for your anxiety - I couldn’t have done this when I was your age and can’t imagine the anxiety that you may be feeling. But let me tell you that in my life what I’ve seen is that stuff like this definitely matters. You will likely never forget this experience (like PTSD) for many years or ever. However, while it matters for sure, it is impossible to predict how much, and unless you take it as a personal defeat and just give up, I bet it will matter not that much if you wind up at a different school. The future is a problem in that we are free to project whatever we want on it. Good luck everyone, you are obviously a great bunch of people who have excellent futures ahead of you - no matter what happens today at approx. 3:30p. Yours in anxiety and hope.

@viviantong

I also had my uc application fees waived. I also do not have the SIR fee. I’m hoping that having the application fees waived explains that

@doglover95 yeah I was talking about just from my community college—strong bias towards Berkeley!

@NetflixJunkie Stanford would be something else, But I only want to get admitted to Stanford if I get rejected from Cal. I would be sad to turn down Cal if I were to get admitted to both, I really want to go to Cal but would not turn down Stanford.
