Less than three hours to go…
Every minute feels like an eternity rn.
@GoldenState1 hahahah thank you! We’re long distance so this matters a lot to me. Good luck to you
I’ll be looking out for your acceptance post in a few hours!
That’s awesome! Definitely should grab a drink after all this stress…
You’d be surprised how many re-entry students there are at cal! I was 20 when I started at cal, but I had friends who were 18 and some who were 32. Everyone’s so welcoming and nice that age doesn’t really matter when you’re there… everyone’s suffering in classes together haha
When I met with admissions officers last year, I asked about how they treat veteran, reentry, and student parent applicants (I’ve got friends from all categories and they’re interested in applying) and they said they LOVE non traditional students! Part of the transfer center is a little play area for kids
@flaminhaute
yea!! I had my starting point mentorship class in the transfer center. Everyone is super nice and a lot of people are parents and veterans or re entry (: I feel like Berkeley is very aware and accepting of people’s backgrounds and responsibilities earlier in life, and they value people who want to go back to school and get an education
I would be a 37 year old re-entry student… but, the re-entry label is kind of offensive considering I “re-entered” years ago. They should refer to me as an oregon trail student or something.
My CCC put together a campus tour and admissions officer session at CAL and the admissions officer told us the same: they love transfer students, at least at the admin level. She said that if it were up to her they would ONLY accept transfer students. They love the real world experience we bring to campus!
Yup if you have a story to tell Cal will love you.
@OhWhatsHerName Great! I love to tell stories, so if that is true, maybe I have a chance after all.
I swear every time I come back I have over 200 new notifications I was on less than four hours ago!
@hailey5799 that’s why I left work haha
Ughh I finish work at 2 and I wanna go home already and prepare for the decision, I’m crying either way lol
Wine and one glass ready for 3:30PM! @lunavieja @doglover95 I’m glad to hear that there are non-traditional students at Cal! I am 32 and at my CC, there are none so I am looking forward to connecting!
Any one here from Deanza or Mission college/West valley?
@doglover95 Not sure if you’re active on the Haas transfer thread, but I have a question regarding your classmates at Haas, specifically the non-CC students: do you feel they are welcoming to CC transfers? I ask because my DD applied to Haas and she feels the environment at Haas for CC students can be lukewarm at best?? We went to Cal day last week and she talked with one of the presenters who was an administrator for Haas, and my DD came away from the conversation somewhat discouraged because this admin specifically told her we admit CC only to add diversity and the consulting club really is for non CC students as they really do not want to waste their time with CC’s? Appreciate any of your comments and good luck to your BF.
@NetflixJunkie im from WVC
@atanger FWIW, my counselor who has always kept it 100% real with me because I’m an older student from a similar background, told me that I wouldn’t be happy at Haas anyway, when I expressed disappointment at not qualifying to apply due to a missing prereq. When I pushed her to elaborate, she gave me a similar type of response about the student body at Haas which she had been given feedback from some of her previous students that transferred into Haas.
hey all - best of luck for later today.
As a Dad here: we too are sitting with dragons flying aroud our guts right now. We want the best for our kids and the wait kills us as well.
WRT transfers, the UC system is working hard to make transfers a big part of the system. You will run into students who will have different views. (Seems many of those have not evolved past middle-school pettiness, and those leopards won’t change their spots.)
I’ll say that from my research, you will get out of Cal the experience that you put in. Get involved, hit the transfer center, get mentored, connect with as many of you that are here as fast as you can. (Build your own support group.) Connect via other social tools, academics, research, study groups, religous, food, etc,…
A start: https://transfers.berkeley.edu/
Met with an undergrad admissions director (totally random, just emailed the rep from my ccc and he just sent my info to her and she asked me to come for a campus meeting) And she was the nicest, most helpful person ever. She went through all my credits (I thought I was at risk of having too many) and said I had a good gpa and not to worry about the credits thing at all
I use my portal sign in my calNet. (I have never taken any classes at UCB)
