Not an outrightly hard choice, right? However UOP has made me a really fantastic offer, almost $20,000 in annual scholarships, admission to the honors program, and I was able to talk to the Chair of the History Department who seems like she really wants me to go there.

I still need to talk to Berkeley to see if I could meet with a professor and sit in on a lecture, and talk to Financial Aid to see if I can squeeze some money out of them.

I guess what my question ultimately comes down to is:
As a student planning on going to a top law school, which is more important: graduating with excellent recommendation letters and an honors degree from UOP, or graduating from the top notch UC Berkeley?

would like to hear more as you think this out. We are looking at UOP for S in 2009. Are you scholarships Merit-or how much if you do not mind sharing. Have you visited the campus? Good luck!

History at Berkeley is top notch. If you are serious about History, I would go to Cal. As far as law school goes, I wouldn’t make my decision based on that, but I’m sure a high GPA from Berkeley would count for more than a high GPA from University of the Pacific. How much more, I don’t know.

Law school admissions starts with the LSAT score and then looks at the GPA in the context, probably, of the undergraduate school attended. But, either school should allow you to compete for a place in any law school within a reasonable range of your LSAT score. As for a recommendation between UCal Berkeley & the Univ. of the Pacific, I don’t know much at all about the Univ. of the Pacific and would like to know if you are in-state for UCal at Berkeley. The safest choice is UCal at Berkeley if you are in-state as the students are bright & involved, the professors are brilliant and, often, are world renowned, location is outstanding & prestige is equal to any Ivy League school. In several respects, Berkeley (and the Univ. of Wisconsin at Madison) is seemingly the most exciting campus in the country.
