Just a heads up, this Thursday, Oct 8th, the University of California is presenting what they call UC CollegeWeekLive. Seven UCs are participating (it doesn’t say which UCs, unfortunately) and you can sign up as a parent or a prospective student and get live online chats, ask questions, and watch video presos.
I don’t have as much time to answer questions on here, and more of those questions are of the kind that I’m not able to answer anyway for one reason or another. You’re picking up the slack and being super helpful.
My second (and definitely final!) year is going great so far. Classes are going mostly OK,(Philosophy of psychology is incredibly hard, lol), and I’m getting experience in the field of teaching through an education class I’m enrolled in. I volunteer tutor at the local high school and I’ll be shadowing some teachers there throughout the quarter. Also met with a UCLA Teach For America recruiter. I think I’ll be a good candidate for the program by the time I apply.
Life’s good, basically. How’s your daughter enjoying Berkeley?
So yeah, some ignorant frat guys thought it’d be a good idea to do something that’s heavily associated with racist elements of our nation’s past and dressed in blackface. Seriously. The frat has since been shut down at UCLA, thankfully. Many black students took to protesting yesterday; I would’ve joined if I didn’t have other commitments. A very fitting slogan that the protest adopted:
@cayton The idea to put on blackface boggles the mind. Seriously. Well, UCLA has been in the news of late: the drug-dealing sorority girl who got murdered a couple weeks ago, this the other day, and today I saw a UCLA football player arrested for rape. I feel sorry for the administration.
