My question: If I have decent essays, what are the possibilities of getting accepted to any one of the UC? I know in this forum some people must have similar stats with me or used to, where did y’all end up with?
You might consider adding Cal Poly Pomona. Their College of Environmental Design has undergrad programs in both landscape architecture and urban/regional planning. The schools you’re currently applying to for those majors are pretty reachy, so it could be good to have a match school where those fields of study will still be an option if the reach schools don’t pan out. As mentioned above, SFSU would be a good non-impacted safety for engineering.
Some additional UC information below and your best chance is at UC Merced.
Essays are considered Very Important but essays do not make up for lower than average academics. The UC’s are holistic in their application review and being a 1st generation/low income applicant is definitely taken into consideration. The UC’s also want to make sure that all applicants are able to succeed in a competitive environment.
2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 1%
UCLA: 2%
UCSD: 7%
UCSB: 8%
UCI: 7%
UCD: 14%
UCSC: 33%
UCR: 49%
UCM: 82%
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT composite + language arts
UCB: 28-35
UCLA: 29-35
UCSD: 26-34
UCSB: 26-34
UCD: 24-33
UCI: 24-34
UCSC: 24-32
UCR: 21-30
UCM: 18-26
I see only 1 safety school which is SFSU. I would try to add another CSU safety to your list or apply to UC Merced so you will have choices in the Spring.
