UC Davis: 4 Day Admission Decision Warning (aka: Buh?!)

I received an automated message that my application for admission to a graduate program at UC Davis was being decided upon and in 4 days I’d have an answer.

First of all: What’s the point of this message other than to terrify you for the next 4 days?

If I’m not admitted, then just say so and don’t bother with a stressful preamble. I’d rather the killing stroke be short, sweet, and momentarily painful than having this dragged out for a week.

What does this message even mean? Does having to think about it mean you’re just not automatically denied? Similarily, are they on the fence about you and need some sort of chink in your application armor to cut you and are thinking about that?

I suspect it’s just an automation that means exactly nothing either good or bad about my application. Regardless, I’m now anxious to the point of sleeplessness and horrifying 3 a.m. wallowing to the tune of “I have no idea what to do if I don’t get in somewhere. I don’t have another plan. Everything I’ve worked for and given up will mean nothing.”

Does anyone know what this means, if anything?

Grad school is a series of humbling moments but Jesus H. Toast, this is both bizarre and kind of mean.

I have no idea why you think it’s “mean” to give you advance notice of when you will find out about your application. I think it’s exceedingly nice of UC Davis to tell you when to expect a decision. Helps you plan.

I’d rather the universities tell me when to expect my application decision several weeks or months in advance. I see absolutely no point in doing it 4 days in advance.

I guess it helps you look for your decision in case you miss it in your inbox for any reason but posting admissions deadlines serves absolutely the same purpose.cc graduate

I think it’s quite possible that behind the scenes admissions is being bombarded with emails and calls every other minute from applicants wanting to know when they’ll hear back, so they’re probably just doing everyone a favor by sending out a mass email about it.

bwahahahahahahahahaha you’re funny.

But yeah, I don’t see the point. Is that 4 day lead time going to prevent you from making some life-changing decision?

So, did you get in?

I guess he didnt
