*****uc davis class of 2020 decision thread*****

I honestly don’t get what you guys are stressing about. Breezed my way through this shit with a 3.5 - No need to try for anything other than the bare minimum. Honestly I don’t even think I’ll go to UCD because once Bernie Sanders gets “Accepted” x) into office he’ll help out everyone who stressed really hard.

Nether-the-less, I’m just glad they liked my essay! :slight_smile:

Accepted

How rigorous is being invited to honors program?

@jhagen216
I also got invited to UHP. Do you know what our next steps are? Do we have to apply, or are we already in honors program? If we do have to apply, do most people make it?

@Jaga98
Hey, I also got admitted as CS major with honors program. no regents. do you wanna have conversation about it on Facebook if you have one?

Congratulations to everyone who got in!

@lyannastark my friend’s daughter was invited to come up for the weekend for promising scholars but my son wasn’t. I’m glad he got in but am wondering how they determined which students to invite for that event.

I was accepted for the class of 2020. Not 100% sure if this is where I want to go yet. I probably will, I have heard Davis has an exellent medical center. This is relevent because in late Jan 2016 I was diagnosed with cancer. Fun!

Not. I will probably deferring for a year 'cause chemotherapy feels like getting repetadly run over by a truck and then drop kicked into a ravine.

Major: Something in the Social Sciences, I dont remember

GPA:
3.3-ish, I don’t remember exactly but I know it was less than 3.4 (I’m in state, and I know if I was out of state I would have been sunk)

Class Rank:
No idea but it ain’t good.

ACT:
31

Two AP classes. Failed one, Currently enrolled in another.

Extra curriculars:
Clubs and community theater related stuff

Work:
summer camp lead counselor for 2015

Essays:
Amazing. Killer. Smoking. Solid 10/10 I’m quite proud of them.

Misc.:
Davis did send me an optional survey to fill out after I had applied, with the option of sending a recomendation letter. I filled out the survey and sent a letter of rec.

Also I know right, what the fcuk danm hel drugs where those addmissions people smoking. Not that I’m complaining.

wow i’m super late to this but uh here’s my stuff

Accepted (instate student)

Major: Undeclared Humanities (pretty sure this helped a lot)

SAT: 2230 (800 CR, 710 M, 720 W)
SAT 2: Lit (760), Chinese (790), Math 2 (680)

Cumulative GPA: 3.64
UW UC GPA: 3.5 (HAHA)
Capped W UC GPA: around 3.8 or 3.9?
Uncapped W UC GPA: 4.0

Senior Year: AP Stats, AP Lit, regular Econ/Gov, AP Physics C, Journalism

Essays: About wanting to be a better editor-in-chief than my previous ones and how submitting poetry taught me to deal with rejection. I thought they were okay at first…until I reread them yesterday. Maybe a 6/10?

ECs: School newspaper for 3 years (staff writer soph year/photo ed junior year/editor-in-chief senior year), school lit mag for 2 years (staff writer junior year/production manager senior year), independent lit mag (poetry reader for 2 years), interned at a local magazine, published 5 poems (nominated for Pushcart), went to CSSSA, a lot of community service (around 450 hours).

Hooks: I guess maybe having published poetry, even if they were in tiny lit mags? Also mentioned having chronic tics since fourth grade/being a TASP finalist, though I don’t think either influenced the decision (never received supplemental).

Accepted: San Jose State…
Wailisted: none
Rejected: none
Waiting: UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCI, UCSD (;__;), UCSC, Wellesley, Smith, Oxy, Reed, Scripps. Emory.

a lot of my friends who i’m 99 percent sure have better GPAs than i do didn’t get in .___. which really surprised me because with my crap GPA i was pretty sure davis wasn’t gonna take me. but they did, so i’ll just not question it. probably helps that the UCs can take in more students this year though (thanks governor brown!!)

@persnicketylemon
Congratulations on your offer! If you don’t mind me asking, when did you receive your acceptance to San Jose State Uni?

thanks @Rubisco228 c: and i got sjsu acceptance near the end of february

Yes, GPA and test scores play a large part in the UC admission’s decision but essays and EC’s also play a huge part in determining if an applicant is a good fit for the schools. Each UC will review every application independently and time and time again, schools have shown stats are not everything. Comparing yourself to your classmates is futile, since you are all individuals, so be proud of your accomplishments and congratulations.

I’m an in-state applicant, but I’ve noticed quite a few OOS applicants on this thread. Do people know about the new policies about OOS financial aid? I just read about them on the UCLA thread, and it sounds like they’re starting our first year.
Can anyone confirm that or give any extra info?
Here’s an article about it: http://dailybruin.com/2015/11/25/uc-to-cut-need-based-aid-for-incoming-out-of-state-students/
