UC Davis Class of 2028 Official Thread

is davis better for data science or uc irvine
Also what was the condition given to you by uc davis

Kid admitted to UCD Honors Program, Fulmor scholarship recipient. 4.0 GPA unweighted, 4.6+ weighted, 9 AP’s (4 in progress, ), 4 Honors classes, 5 CC classes. Varsity and non-school competitive sports, founded a club, sr class cabinet member. One internship, modest weekend job. In-state. Public HS. Similar stats to so many on this thread.

She is not shocked to have been admitted but is absolutely stunned to get the scholarship/UHP offer.

major?

If you like nature and the ocean SLO is spectacular, some of the greatest coastal biodiversity in California. We spend a lot of time in the area hiking, diving, water sports, etc. But it is definitely more remote and smaller than Davis. Not as many restaurants, cultural attractions, etc. My daughter has done research at both SLO and Davis and both have very accessible faculty. I would think about where you want to go after college and look at what companies/grad schools recruit from each school…

Congratulations!

New here (2nd post).

D24 rejected outright from Davis.
3.8 unweighted gpa/4.2 w gpa (this is from her transcript, not sure if UC calculates differently)
8 APs & 9 Honors courses, plus 2 CC courses (not sure what a-g courses are) at CA public HS (Bay Area)
35 ACT (which I know UCs didn’t even see but relevant for private universities)
Undeclared/leaning towards Biology/STEM major
moderate ECs (1 season of track, some clubs, a science summer internship, and spent multiple summers as a camp counselor)

Other acceptances: UCI, UCR, Northeastern (starting int’l program for Fall semester), and UOP
Waiting: USC, Claremont McKenna, NYU, Northwestern, UMich, UCLA, UCSD, UCB, UCSB, UCSC, CalPoly, Santa Clara, (and I’m missing at least 2 more…)
Rejected: Stanford EA and UCD

Welcome.

Yes, the UCs calculate GPA differently. You can calculate her UC GPA here: GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub

A-G requirements are the courses necessary for UC admission. You can find details here: Subject requirement (A-G) | UC Admissions

Obviously different high schools offer different courses. You can look up your daughter’s high school here. Each of her courses should be listed in an A-G category. The courses with a star next to them are given a extra weight when calculating her UC GPA. The other courses (even if they are called honors) do not bump her UC GPA.

Thanks so much for the links. It looks like none of her freshman or sophomore Honors courses counted as UC Honors. So her UC gpa is 3.75 uw/4.39 w/4.04 capped.

My daughter has been admitted to Mathematical Analytics and Operations Research ( major) at college of L & S. How easy is it to switch to Data Science major or Economics at UCD? All three are within the college of L&S.

Data science is a capped major and has lottery eligibility. Data Science Change of Major Requirements and Process | UC Davis Department of Statistics

Economics is easy to change. At Freshman orientation when she meets with the advisor, she can begin the process.
Change of Major Within a College

Students planning to change from one major to another major within the same college must be approved by an advisor of the major they are leaving, endorsed by an advisor of the new proposed major, and requires the dean’s office for approval.
