We are going and are looking forward to seeing the town
Dessert Crepes at Crepeville are worth checking out. Even the savory crepes are a must taste.
We are going for Aggie Day !!
has anyone committed yet
My son just attended Aggie Day and boy was he sold! Now we still have a couple more this coming weekend but he was just thrilled with the option of UC Davis.
We unfortunately were unable to make Aggie Day today and would love to know what impressed your son the most!
Separate question - does anyone know if Picnic Day offers the same sort of programming, or if it would be better to just do a standard tour to get a sense for the school.
That’s great! What did he like about it?
Can you share how the day was structured and what you saw/learned for those that couldn’t attend?
Picnic Day is a big open house for the community. It will be packed! Hotels and parking will be rough. I think it would be better to do a tour on another day.
The entire day was great. So organized, full of energy. The speakers all reminded kids that they earned a spot at a top 6 public school in the nation and they should let that sink in and celebrate the hard work they did to get there. The diversity, the energy and vibe of everything really made him happy. It was rough for him on this college acceptance journey. He is very high achieving - sports captain, volunteer etc etc and got denied or waitlisted at several UCs . Davis was not on his list so we were so happy to see him excited about it. He spoke with people about opportunities to spend a semester in Sacramento working at the Capital( politics major) and he was impressed. GO AGGIES - GREAT JOB TODAY!
Agreed! We went as well and my daughter completed her SIR at Aggie day! She was sold with their College of Biological Sciences. She’s a NPB major pre-med and the panels we listened to confirmed that there’s a full counseling team helping students plan and prepare for med school. As a parent I loved that once admitted into the CBS there’s ability to move around and change majors within the college once students have more experience with the different majors. It really felt like the school is committed to student success. The day was extremely well organized. The icing was how beautiful the campus is, how easy it is to get housing after her first year and how cute, clean and safe the town of Davis is. My friend and I walked around after midnight in the town of Davis the night before Aggie day and it felt so safe!
Congratulations!
The Health Professions Advising at Davis is one of the best I’ve seen. Spend some time on their website noting all that they offer.
which segundo hall residence is the best according to you guys
Took the kid to Aggie Days and she loved every bit of it. The event was well organized and the entire Davis community was friendly and welcoming. I don’t understand why some folks on CC call Davis “rural.” There are several big box stores in town, including Target, and Costco is less than 15 minutes away. We could even see the tall buildings of Sacramento skyline in the distance on our way to Costco. The Sacramento airport is accessible by bus. My kid thinks it’s the perfect place for college - a cute college town with easy access to bigger amenities. Like the tale of Goldilocks, it was “just right.” She’s thrilled to join the Aggie family.
For housing, you don’t get a choice of dorm or hall. If you choose a Living Learning Community, you will be assigned to a specific hall in a specific dorm. Otherwise, dorm and hall assignment is random
Congratulations!
Nordstrom Rack should be opening across the street from campus, next to Trader Joes.

I posted our visit recommendations on this thread UC Davis Campus Visits: Share Your Tips & Recommendations
It would be great to hear your recommendations too!
For those who have made their decision, I would recommend reserving a hotel room for move in weekend and move out day as soon as possible. Students move into their dorms before orientation which is usually one week before classes start. Orientation dates should be posted any day now. Students need to be out of the dorms 24 hours after their last final, or no later than June 12 (even if their final is that day).
Davis has a parent/family weekend in the fall. It is a good time to visit your Aggie and let them show you around their new home. The big community open house is Picnic Day. It is held every year in April. If you plan on going, keep your eyes open for when they announce the dates so that you can book a hotel ASAP.
For students who may be flying home, Southwest already has flights available through Jan 6, 2025. That means you can book both Thanksgiving and winter break flights now. I would recommend booking Thanksgiving flights ASAP. UC Davis has classes M-W of Thanksgiving week and Th & Fri off. You can find the academic calendar here.
@lkg4answers Two quick updates to this super helpful post.
The orientation date and other deadlines have been posted and your link gets folks to the updated info on that webpage.
UC Davis Parents Weekend looks like it will be Nov 1-3, 2024 below the yellow box discussing Picnic Day is a bigger community event thus UC Davis’ Parents Weekend is more low key than at other campuses.
@Crewser I don’t want to derail the SLO forum by discussing Davis.
There are beach volleyball courts at Davis. They have a beach volleyball spring league that is open to all students.
Yes, he researched the beach volleyball options - just don’t have a club team - just intramural. Thanks for the tips!
