I’ve been thinking about college and subjects I want to major in, as well as the colleges and cost of living and stuff like that, and I’ve been doing some research on UC Davis, mainly their Marine and Coastal Science - Marine Ecology and Organismal Biology and Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology majors and I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight into A. What Davis is like as a school overall (atmosphere, community, campus) and B. What the majors themselves are like?
Are you a CA resident? What year are you in HS now?
UC Davis is known for its friendly vibe, great college town, welcoming community, and extremely bikeable campus. We know lots of kids who love it (and several who chose it over UC Berkeley for those reasons)!
I live about 2 hours from Davis , and I’m currently a sophomore.
Have you ever been to Picnic Day? It’s crowded but fun! You could plan to attend this coming April.

UC Davis is very strong in all sorts of biology, but I know that there are lots of other great places to study marine biology on the west coast, too. As a sophomore, it’s a bit early for you to start a “chance me / match me” post, but perhaps some people here will have suggestions of schools and programs that might give you inspiration or something to think about. I’m not well versed in marine biology personally, so I’ll leave that to others!
Thank you so much for the information!
S24 goes to UCD majoring in Aerospace Engineering. He loves the college town vibe there. He met a lot of friends during freshman and travelled with FSAE team to Michigan last summer. Good Luck.
