UC Davis to UC Santa Cruz rejected

I applied in November for Transfer from UC Davis to UCSC. Their admissions decision date was supposed to be March 17th, but I found by calling admissions that they “didn’t get them done in time” and would send out decisions through April 30th.

UCSC is the perfect place for me; having visited now, I would take it over Reed.

I got my decision: rejected.
My question: why?

I have a 3.87 GPA, but my record is spotty otherwise: I’ve gone to a few UCs and CCCs on and off.

My major is listed as Environmental Science and Policy, but I have been working toward Science Studies (a very interdisciplinary social sciences degree). Since this major is not available at UCSC, and since I have also enjoyed working toward a minor in American Studies at UCD, another very interdisciplinary socsci major, I applied for AmStud.

I do not want to sound harsh but even though your GPA is high it sounds like you took a lot of very easy courses to get it. You do not articulate clearly what it is that you want to major in but the things you mention sound pretty trivial. Also, you mention that you have attended a number of UCs and CCCs which could indicate a lack of purpose or commitment. UC to UC transfers are difficult since CCC to UC transfers have priority. I think the UCs want a compelling reason why you would want to transfer from one UC to another before they seriously consider it and I think you fell well short of the mark on that score.
