Hey you guys. Just got back from pauley pavilion at ucla. Tough loss, but what a season. After the game i walked to the bruin statue and touched it with my whole body for goodluck for myself and everyone on this thread. Hopefully one month from now, most of us will be celebrating.

yeah that loss got my spirits down a bit.

sigh

My first day of work was pretty good. How are you guys doing? I haven’t been on here in days…

How much sushi did you deliver on the first day?

did u eat a lot of it too?

Thanks for the soothing words sandkicks !
I also hope that many of us will get accepted to UCLA

WillDO, I made around 7 deliveries today and made $20 in tips. I guess that’s not bad. What I need to do is step it up and sugar coat my greetings so that I can double my tips! Haha. That would be pretty awesome if I can make $40 - $50 in tips. That is equivalent to what some waiters make in tips in a day. I advantage I will have is I won’t have to slave over tables and be running all over the restaurant. A guy who just quit my work would make that amount ($40-$50/day) on average!

Yuriy, I didn’t eat any sushi, however I was very tempted to for each delivery I made. I was thinking about taking one sushi since usually they chefs cut the sushi in more pieces than what it says on the menu so they wouldn’t know if I took a piece. :)

Must be tough delivering around LA since u’re from OC, right? I live in LA, yet i still get lost so often.

Does your salary cover ur car expenses and tips are kinda the net amount that u take home?

Do they pay u in cash or check?

Eh. You know what I realized? I never declared my major at my CCC. I did, however, declare my major at the second CCC that I’m attending (which isn’t listed as “last school attended” though). Hopefully, nothing bad happens because of my procrastination/laziness?

Are you gonna hook us up with some free/cheap sushi, nikkei325i?
And what happened to working at that law firm you were talking about? Or is this delivery job just to tide you over until summer?

Hahaha, same here IamAPPREHENSIVE. I’ve been telling everyone how I don’t actually want to go to SD and would rather go to Irvine, but it’d be nice to know if they’ve accepted/rejected me. :(

sarcasm, what would declaring your major at your ccc have to do with anything?

Bleh, I don’t know. I can’t remember what you’re supposed to have done before you transfer…? I think I’ve spoken to a transfer couselor twice in the past 2 years and they weren’t really helpful in explaining the transferring process, so I’ve just been winging it so far. Also, could that have been any more blunt? It was like you were trying to cut me with a spoon.
:(

It’s actually not as bad as I thought it would be. We have internet access at our place so whenever I need to find a house/apartment I just search it on Yahoo! Maps.

The good thing is my salary does cover my car expenses since I do not drive more than 30 miles a day. Luckily my car gets an EPA estimated rating of 26 MPG on surface streets so I probably waste 1 gallon of gas just on delivering. Yes, tips are the net amount that I take home. Besides tips, I get a base pay of $7/hr so it’s not that bad.

I have yet to receive a check, but I am assuming that they pay me by check so, unfortunately, I will have some money deducted from taxes. By the way, that percentage do they usually take out for taxes in Los Angeles? In OC it is about 20%.

Haha. If I could hook you up with free sushi, I would. On another hand, cheap sushi I can do.

Yeah, I am basically working here until I start my internship at a law firm in the summer. I kind of feel like I got scewed over since I was told by the secretary that I would be able to start interning in March. Well, that never happened and I ended up wasting time that I could have used toward making some money. The delivery job is actually not as embarrassing as I thought it would be so I am going to hang onto this just until I transfer to a 4-year.

So how’d you end up with a delivery job instead working some retail/cashier/customer service position at a store instead? Especially since you have to use your own car! It’s so much more lax working at some lame desk job 'cause all your do is chat with your co-worker-friends and rag about the customers. :)

That is true. I was really considering on working at some clothes store instead of being a delivery driver, but this is what came up first. I applied to Urban Outfitters, The Gap, Target, etc. but none of them called me back. I was kind of in a rush to find a job since I need to save up for my trip to Japan. I figured that if I can make a good amount of money in tips from delivering sushi then I could very well exceed the retail job pay of $7/hr. Moreover, I do not have to deal with the nagging customers all day! Instead, I get to yell at moronic drivers from being stuck in traffic all day.

I remember I was in a hurry to find a job right when I started going to community college. I even applied to Baskin-Robbins–probably should’ve applied for Golden Spoon, haha–because it was so close, but ended up getting what’s now my current job (I can’t believe I’ve had the same part-time job for long, too!) because I didn’t hear from BR for like 6 weeks. Which I guess was a good thing because that job actually paid more than the minimum wage! So I guess any job will work as long as you need the money. :)

Ooh, when are you going to Japan? I wish I could go on vacation overseas! :(

sarcasmgirl, where are you currently working?

I plan to head to Japan in mid-June, as soon as my classes end and stay there for at least 3 weeks, maybe even 1 month depending on how much money I have saved up. Hopefully, I can learn my own language and escape from my white-washed self. :P

I work at a theatre for the performing arts (like ballet, opera, musicals, etc.). It pays $8/hr and I got a $0.25 raise last year. So lame! It’s pretty good compared to all the other jobs out there though. We just answer phone calls or work at the box office. Most of the time, we just chat a lot or try to do homework (though I doubt anyone ever gets anything done).

Wow, do you have family there? It’s gonna be crazy expensive being there so long. You should visit a few other Asian countries while you’re there since the airfare is so cheap there!

Yah, my parents used to threaten to send me to China to learn Chinese when I was a kid and I guess I wish they had (though I don’t think they would have anyway).
Do you at least understand Japanese? You should take language classes at the UC you transfer to. Or even do a study abroad program. Well, that’s what I plan to do at least. :)

YAY! We can go to UCI together and be BEST FRIENDS FOREVEEER! We can have like sleepovers, manicures, facials, body waxes, etc together! We can talk about boys and and tell each other secrets! CHYEA!

But I’m a heterosexual guy so nevermind. We can still get manicures together if you want XD jkjkjkjkjustkeeding.

I feel kind of lucky to only be waiting for SB and of course LA and B right now. But all of us should know in a short matter of time. Good luck all.

UCB- 27 days left

Did I get the number of days correct? ha, i’m a bit outta it.
