UC decision dates...

I got into SB 05 April with a comparative lit major. GPA is not stellar – 3.18. Do you think SB is releasing by major? I think i saw that a bunch of people who were admitted that day were from L&S … Anything?

Congrats. How many of the major reqs did you finish? IGETC?

I finished IGETC but not much else. I think I took 3 of the 4 req’d language courses and didn’t take a history sequence. Then again, the major is probably among the least impacted.

By the way, is the idea that UCSB doesn’t weigh essays into the equation true? Because I don’t think working full-time and schooling full-time is enough to make my application stand out. I believe a big “hmmm” is due.

“By the way, is the idea that UCSB doesn’t weigh essays into the equation true?”

I suppose in the admissions process nothing is certain.

I have spoken to an admissions represenative from UCSB who said that essays play no part in UCSB’s decisions.

hmm…so, I’m going to be in Miami when B/LA come out…hmm…wait till I get home? Or not?..woof

You should party both in miami and when you get home! I’m gonna be at Coachella when the decisions come out. I think mine will be a week long, multi-location party.

Hey, Squarepeg have fun at Coachella. You should really check out Matt Costa if you aren’t already planning to. He is a great act.

good recommendation! I’ll take that!!

Hey guys. just got back from my trip. pretty boring.

Nothing new from SD. They claim that they’ll tell us by april 30th. Looks like they procrastinate more than we do.

later

ahahah… UCSD is being lazy…

Do you think there is a motive as to why cal and ucla post their admission decisions long after the rest of the UCs? I have this crazy theory that the reason some of you may not have heard from, say, ucsd and sb, is they want to find out which students ucla and cal are accepting before admitting more students (to ucsd,sb). The reason being is that they know those ucla and cal admitted students will more than likely not be attending ucsd,sb so then those schools can accept more students. As I said in the beginning…just a theory.

Okay…I’m ready for attack

There is some valid logic behind your points. The problem is that we would never be able to khow if something similar is happening behind the closed doors.

if I get denied to UCSD and get accepted to UCLA then your theory is true :)

we will see if you are right.

thanks Sandkicks! I’ll check him out.

Last year I got accepted to UCSD (Revelle), UCI and USC, but was denied by UCSB and UCLA. I thought the same thing. But I hadn’t completed statistics by the spring semester, and I found out that this was the determining factor for why I wasn’t admitted to UCLA and UCSB. I think each of the admissions processes are independent of each other. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is the UC president’s pledge to find a UC school for all eligible applicants. This policy could lend suspicion to the UC handing out a kind of consolation prize for a qualified applicant not getting into the more coveted campuses. This is pure speculation of course.

Thanks for sharing that with us… woah, missing just that statistics course could yield a rejection? Man, i’m worrying now for UCLA because I miss a few preregs :frowning: too. Anyways, what was your GPA at that time?

Are there tons of prereqs for a lot of majors? I guess I just don’t understand how people could be missing them because there are only three for my major.

there are only three for my major as well

You must be kidding? Only 3 preregs for your major, you are very lucky? What is your major?

For my math major:
3 semester of Calculus
1 linear algebra
1 differential equation
at least 3 semester of calculus based physics
at least 1 semseter of general chemistry
One C++ programming (this course has its own prereg: intro to programming)
IGETC too
As you can see, there are at least 10 preregs there for me, not to mention that I have to finish IGETC like other majors too.
