UC decision dates...

Just got accepted Riverside, Poli Sci/International Studies

Does UCSB guarantee admission for GPA > 2.8

I am applying for UCSB for fall 2007. I have a a GPA well above 3.5 at a California City College. I have a pretty checkered past, a bunch of F’s from over 10 years ago when I was less then serious about school. I have heard that UCSB denies applicants often for having units in excess of 90. UCSB also encourages CC students to complete as many pre-major courses as possible at CC before applying. The bio-sciences require 4 semesters of chem (20 units), 2 semester of calc (10 units), 2 semesters of physics (8 units), 2-3 semesters of bio (10-15 units), and all the general ed requirements. This puts me well above 90 untis. I am very concerned that I may be denied because of a checkered past and excess units. I am preparing for a specific major, pharmacology, which only UCSB offers for undergraduates in California. My counselor at my CC seems to be somewhat incompetent in advising me. Does anybody know the specifics regarding UCSB’s TAA policy? Is there any guarantee?

Thanks
Brian

Is anyone here really considering attending UCR?

No, I’m holding out for UC Merced.

Brian, i actually considered that major and have been admitted to SB, so i’ll tell u what i know.

To be eligible for TAA. U need math+english done by the time u apply.

prereqs are not stressed at all. U can even get admitted w/ out doing bio. Yeah all sciences are like that where to finish everything u’ll be at 90 units and have to spend 3 yrs at least at cc.

I spoke to SB bio dept, they want u to do bio, general chem, cc. Physics is not important. ochem is nice sicne it’s generally easier at cc.

anyhow, so don’t worry about prereqs as long as u get ur math and englishes b4 u apply.

got into ucsb this morning, wasnt like that last night, finally some good news from the UCs.

so ive been clicking around the financial aid website and nothings coming up?? what the hell do i have to click around here.

Oh, hay page 200

jon congrats,

financial aid info shows in couple of days. they’ll also send u an email.

SB seems they get info out to u really fast compared to all other UC

someguy415 Is anyone here really considering attending UCR?

yes, if UCI reject me.

highschoolda, My English is done, I will be taking second semester calculus at the time of application next fall. There is no way i can complete this course before that. Is that acceptable?

u just need one math course, not the entire sequence.

sweet, I should have all the prereqs completed by the time of transfer, will they let you enter your major directly from CC?

at SB, it’s a little complecated, but not impossible.

I emailed them several times and they get back to very quickly

Thanks for help highschoolda

no problem. Sounds like w/ ur gpa, u can do a lot better than SB. good luck.

“Do you think there is a motive as to why cal and ucla post their admission decisions long after the rest of the UCs? I have this crazy theory that the reason some of you may not have heard from, say, ucsd and sb, is they want to find out which students ucla and cal are accepting before admitting more students (to ucsd,sb). The reason being is that they know those ucla and cal admitted students will more than likely not be attending ucsd,sb so then those schools can accept more students. As I said in the beginning…just a theory.”

“f I get denied to UCSD and get accepted to UCLA then your theory is true…we will see if you are right”

Actually, that is not my theory…(sorry didn’t make it very clear). The 2nd/3rd tier schools have already accepted the strongest applicants, the rest of the students who are still waiting are the “fillers”. Once the lower UCs find out who of the people they have accepted have also gotten into ucla/cal, then they will accept the borderliners.

Hope that doesn’t sound too mean, I just think it’s a strong idea. Especially since the students I have talked to who are still waiting to hear have less than stellar gpas.

I Got Into Santa Barbara!!! Yay!!!

congrats square!

shirley, your not applying to any other UCs? If not, I really hope you get into Irvine. I went to UCR my first year of undergraduate. I got out of there the following year.

3000 posts. Good thing no one bet me.
