UC engineering major

Hello,

What level of stats (academic and extracurricular achievements) is needed to get accepted into the mechanical engineering major at UC Berkeley or UCLA?

Delete. I misread

UC Berkeley admission stats for ME:
Admit rate: 4.9%
UC Capped weighted GPA 4.20-4.30
Uncapped weighted 4.31-4.65
Unweighted 3.89-4.00

UCLA admission stats for ME:
Admit rate: 4.2%
UC Capped weighted GPA 4.25-4.32
Uncapped weighted 4.51-4.75
Unweighted 3.90-4.00

My daughter unweighted GPA 4.0 capped GPA 4.3. I am not sure it is right. She took one 10 th honors English and 6 APs in 20 th and 6 APs in 11 th now .( i calculated all a in 11 th but i think she will be get all A definitely).

You can search last year’s Freshman Class discussions for ME student profiles:

Thank you. If girl students are less competitive?

Gender is not considered in the UC application review so students are evaluated on their own merits.

You need to check your HS’s a-g course list to make sure the 10th grade Honors English course is UC approved for the extra weighting in the UC GPA calculation.

Here is the course list and type in the HS name and look for the Yellow Star next the UC approved Honors courses:

I did. I never did past years for my older daughter and son. I checked up that her classes are UC ag 5.0 gpa classes. Though GPA is 10th and 11 th, she already other APs in 9 th ( but we did not include) . She took most rigorous classes in 10th .

Is her 10th grade English Honors course weighted by the UCs? If so, that is very rare.

When we apply UC GPA , ( our system is semester) and have been taking total 13 APs since 10th. Should write 13 A or 26 A for semester ? If write 13 , GPA is over 4.6 but 26b, GPA is 4.31

If you are on a semester system that is 2 grades for each year long class.

The UC’s consider 3 UC GPA’s so Unweighted, Capped weighted and Weighted Uncapped.

13 classes = 26 grades.

It is only not me. My friend also told me that why more college level classes
make UC GPA declining. 26 AP classes GPA 4.31 and 13 4.6 . Weird

For the Capped weighted UC GPA, yes the more classes taken, the more dilute the GPA becomes due to the 8 semester Honors point cap. Maximum GPA is 4.4.

However, since there are 3 UC GPA’s that are calculated, the Weighted uncapped GPA takes the extra rigor of these courses into consideration since there is no cap on the Honors point in the calculation.

If an applicant takes 13 year long AP’s and only gets 1 grade/ year that is 13 A’s with 13 Honors points which is equivalent to 26 A’s and 26 Honors points if on the semester system so the Capped weighted GPA is the same.

Your original calculation is incorrect since you need to select the correct grade terms which is years vs semesters.

This calculator defaults to semesters so you have change the grade term.
