UC Engineering: Rank the Campuses

So, out of all the UC Campuses, berkeley is definitely on top when it comes to engineering, right.

But what about the rest of them? Please rank as many as you can remember!

from canada to Berkeley can i study @ Berkeley?
i would like to do my Master’s Degree @Berkley in Electrical Engineering
but I can’t afford it bcs my marks are not @ the very TOP or top enough to get
scholarship.

is there a way for me as a canadian student -which means international to do
my graduate studies @ berkeley but I have no money from my parents.

if you know the way please tell me.

Thank you a Million!

IMO, in general:

1 Cal

2 UCLA

3 UCSD (debatable with UCLA)

4 UCSB

5 UCD

6 UCI

7 UCR?

8 UCSC/UCM?

Not quite sure about UCR/UCM/UCSC.

Keep in mind that some campuses are better for certain types of engineering. For example, UCSD is generally considered the best campus for bioengineering and UCSB has great chemical engineering and materials science/engineering departments that are second to only Berkeley.

UCLA is fourth, maybe third. Their engineering is a lot easier to get into and is not very good

I need to apply to ONE more UC campus other than Berkeley, for engineering.

Any recommendations, based solely on engg. rankings?

“I need to apply to ONE more UC campus other than Berkeley, for engineering.”

Either UC San Diego or UCLA depending on which discipline of engineering and personality. If it’s BioE, definately UC San Diego, otherwise its a closer call.

UCD, UCSBm don’t compare?

One more? Go UCLA.

Supposed to be very good in engineering (yes, I know it’s not a UC).

just apply for the lot.

I applied for Cal, LA, SD, D, & I. My thoughts were if all of them rejected me, I would have just gone to Mt. SAC

^
Mt. San Antonio College! woot. one of the best CC’s in the world.

Is SB a better engineering school than Davis?

It depends on exactly which engineering you wish to do. If undecided though, apply to UCLA. It generally has a better reputation than UCSD.

Though, if I were you, I’d apply to all three of Cal, UCLA, and UCSD.

UCSB does not have an engineering school so it shouldn’t even be a part of that list.

I’m pretty sure they have an engineering school.

[UCSB College of Engineering](About UCSB Engineering | College of Engineering - UC Santa Barbara)

the replies are correct: it absolutely depends on the type of engineering, and within that discipline, the specialty. UC is one system and they tend not to duplicate themselves. UCSD is #2 in the nation for BioE and has been in the top 3 for several years. UCLA is Aerospace Engineering. UCB is Nuclear Engineering. Etc, etc.

You also need to check with ABET and see if your program in engineering is board-certified at each campus. For example, BioE is board-certified at UCSD and UCI but not in all flavors. The other UC’s have no currently board-certified BioE programs. See ABET

And be aware that the engineering programs at all of the UC’s tend to be impacted, which means that if you don’t declare your major and submajor (if required) when you apply, it can be very difficult to get into that major/submajor later. Look before you leap.

There is apparently an outdoor shake table, where engineers construct large structures on top of it, then simulate an earthquake and then study the results. UCSD claims the largest of these shake tables.

[UCSD: Structural Engineering](http://structures.ucsd.edu/index.php?page=research/projects/proj_newConcrete)

You can look at engineering ranks by type in US News College Rankings, I believe. It should be in your school library. If your at Cal, I know it’s in the Directories section next to the North reading room, second floor, Doe library.

Look it up.
