When Pablo Casals says Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart, I think about my own experiences with a fine percussion instrument called the tabla, which I learned to play three years ago. It is a set of two small drums, played with the fingers, and is a significant means of expressing religion in our Indian culture. In essence, the tabla is a way of communicating amongst our people. For instance, during a Rhamayan, an Indian religious ceremony, the tabla is the music played in the background of the priests sermons. The music from the tabla is what keeps the rhythm of the sermon going, and thus speaks to the audience along with the priest.
In addition to communication and fine melody, the ability to play the tabla would contribute to any diverse society, especially a college community. The cultural background of this technique will allow me to spread my culture and tradition to the rest of the college community, thus allowing me to leave a distinct mark during my time in college. In essence, the college campus would benefit from this cultural influence as it would be exposed to an integral part of a multifaceted culture.

I think this is really good. I wouldn’t change a thing.

I just find it really cool that you play the tabla! I’ve always wanted to learn, but the thought of buying a very good quality one from india, taking good care of it, getting lessons and learning to play this pretty difficult instrumentmade me feel that it could be a lot to handle. Who taught you?

It’s pretty good, but I feel that you’re giving too much info of the tabla rather than writing about yourself. Also, you put “In essence” twice, which seems a little redundant. Just a few things here and there, but it’s pretty good for a 200 word essay.

Agree with this post. So difficult in 200 words, but you need to focus on “you” , so you might need to reduce some of the description of the instrument.

The YOU part, which is the last paragraph, is shorter than the 1st paragraph with descriptions, you could try to stick some stuff about yourself in there like feelings about your experience
