UC Essay world limit?

So for Berkeley’s follow up essay, after the first one, it says this:

Please limit your response to approximately 500 words.

What is approximately? Do you think 11 words (511) over the limit is too much or should I shave it down to 500?

for Haas?

511 is fine.

Yeah for Haas, thanks.

What if I got 526? is that also okay?

i’ll share with you the same advice that was given to the rest of us during the beginning of the application filings:

the instructions say approximately 500.
this means, “close to” 500.
a little over…
a little under…
there’s no definitive standard for “approximately.”
that said, the safest bet would logically be to stay as close to 500 as possible.
so… if you can shave a few words off without losing the affect of your essay, it’s probably wise to do so. however, if your essay screams perfection at 526 words, i doubt it’ll count against you.

thanks floyd
